Any GPS only needs 3-4 channles to triangulate an accurate position(including military GPS). Having 16 channels should not be the only reason for buying this GPS. Then some of you will say that lock on times are faster....this may or may not be true depending on the system architecture of the GPS receiver. However, a 16 channel GPS receiver will allow you to pick up new satellites when it becomes available...this does not mean it will use all satellites to get a position. I don't think the average GPS user would ever need 16 channels unless they were flying an SR-71 Blackbird at Mach 3, which in this case tracking 16 satellites would be essential since the visibility time is so short due to the high rate of speed.
