Another thing, the SA errors were a good example of govenment waste. The Department of Defense was paying to induce the errors in consumer units and still make non SA signal available to military units, while the US Coast Guard was going to great expense to build DGPS networks in all of the seaports in the us to get rid of the SA errors.

Does anyone know if there are European Maps available for the handheld Delorme software? If not, any other Pocket PC mapping software that provides good European maps?
(I know Garmin's MapSource has maps for a lot of European countries, but they are expensive, and also the MapSource software will only run on a laptop or PC, not on handheld PocketPCs.)

Microsoft's PocketStreets software for the Pocketpc should have european maps. The software comes with the Euro version of Microsoft's Mappoint and Streets and Trips software I believe. -TAL

Has anyone found any good resources for builing cables to make this compatible with other handhelds such as Handspring Visors (Palm) or HP journadas (PPC)? I found a web site selling the cables, but for $60 a cable, their prices we ridiculous.

Yes, got it today at Radio Shack B&M on sale for $69.xx.
It had sale tags on both versions, Laptop and PocketPC.

He rang it up at $99.xx and had to do a price adjustment.
The tag said the sale started on Dec 28, 2002.

I'm in the midwest.

Did anyone from East Coast pick it up for $69.99 ??? Is the sale nation-wide or regional ?

I have a friend who works on Bay Pkwy Radioshack in Brooklyn, I will definitely ask him... he gets an employee discount too. How long does the sale last? The holiday might mess me up. I really wish this was USB.

I just got back from 2 RS..

1) Only had palm version in stock for $69.99 (they still showed laptop version at $99)
2) Had both palm and laptop version in stock for $99

So I went ahead and bought the laptop version after complaining a lot, she pulled out the ad and there it was for $99 so that is the price I paid... arrgh Why are all radio shacks differnet here? All I want is the laptop version for $69 :)

Is there anyway to connect the palm version to a laptop, by hacking the cables or anything?

correct me if I am wrong, but if you want to be able to connect this device to both a PDA and a laptop, wouldnt the PDA version be the one you would want? I mean that way you have the PDA cables, and you can easily make the laptop cable... Then you have everything.. Right?

It's the same unit for both, the only thing that is different is the included software and cables. If you can find a map, it should be easy enough to craft your own serial cable from one of the included PDA cables. There should only be three conductors in the whole scheme, atleast that's what it appears on my laptop version.

As for the software, find a friend who bought the laptop version (if you're cheap and morally challenged) or buy the laptop software for $50, or use another brand of software.

I bought mine yesturday. The dc adapter is not included and it takes 3 AAA batteries fyi.

I am not sure if all GPS's are like this, but when I am not moving my position will move on the map slightly and the compass keeps going every imaginable direction.

I was trying to do search on GPS, radioshack and digitraveler without any success. (in general I was trying to find cable from DELL or handspring PDA's)

It says the voice guidance only works with iPAQ Pocket PCs only. So, would I be better off just buying a different all-in-one GPS system instead of this and a PDA??

In other words, I want a GPS system for my car, I don't have a PDA, PocketPC, or laptop and voice guidance would be nice. What are my options?

TIA
