I'm gonna say no way are those two antennas you listed are better than the 15-1890. First, the 15-1838 is $29.99 and and doesn't use double helical elements like the 15-1890, but instead uses a standard loop encased in plastic. The 150-1862 is no longer manufactured and is a phased out product. I tested the 15-1890 and it's performance for regular analog VHF and UHF is pretty good and for the price of $24.99, it's a better deal than the two you mentioned.

I guess you could say that the 15-1890 is a cheaper alternative. In my tests, the 15-1838 fared much better than the 15-1890 that I returned. My 15-1862 (which can still be found at some radioshacks), puts the 15-1890 to shame. Double Helical elements didn't make a difference; much the same way that those Terks don't perform. Like the person posted previously, the performance will depend on many variables.

I bought an 1890 today and returned it an hour later. It didn't work any better than my old RS double bowtie. Having said that, it didn't work any worse. If I didn't have the bowtie already, I would have kept it. But since I already do have the bowtie, why waste money.
