RadeonHD X.org module and boards with sideport memory

Maybe everyone else knew this but me, I'm not sure. I just finished spending the past week fighting with a new motherboard using an ATI 780g chipset getting the onboard video to work with 2d acceleration.

I finally found (through trial and error) that I needed to turn off the Sideport+UMA in my bios and leave it at Sideport to get acceleration.

If I'm the only one that didn't know this, I'm an idiot. 😛 If it helps someone else, even better. If someone knows something I missed to enable Sideport+UMA, let me know.

This is all. 😀

i had the 3300 onboard an asus board (sideport was enabled), and a 3450 working fine with 3d under debian squeeze with compiz, using the drivers from the ATI website.

790gx chipset.

I was going for a completely FLOSS for this machine at all costs, so the ATI drivers were out for me.

Were you using the sideport+system memory?

yeah, i left the video at the defaults
im all for f/oss, but more than that i want my stuff to work *shrug* and (im honestly surprised) the ATI drivers havent given me a problem.

I'll amend my original statement. I can't do sideport+system memory at the same time. If I do either-or, it works flawlessly.

Using xf86-video-radeonhd 1.2.5, I now have full XV acceleration, perfect mapping on my 1080p set.

I haven't run a non-nVidia card in around a decade now, mostly due to their linux support. While I'm 99% positive this experience would have been easier with an integrated nVidia solution, I'm glad to be able to see at least one of my machines has a 100% free solution. 🙂
