Radeon x800gto or what?

My Home theater x800GTO just died. I can get a replacement from Ebay for $60. I was wondering if anyone thought there was a better card out there for the price. It has to be an AGP card.

What makes you think it is dead? Is it displaying artifacts or is there nothing being displayed at all?

You can get Radeon 2600 Pro AGP for that price, and it's probably a little faster overall. Best AGP you can get is the Radeon 3850 which is still decently fast by modern standards, but it will cost closer to $90.

You might also be able to find an X1950 Pro AGP kicking around on Ebay. It should be a bit faster, though not leaps-and-bounds.

On the other hand, look into the cost of doing a full upgrade. You may find that you can snag a cheap processor, motherboard with decent onboard graphics, and memory for roughly twice what you'll pay for the card alone. It's at least worth a look.

Total: $134.

That's only a single-core proceesor, but it may be fine for HTPC work (especially if you're only running a single core right now). For another $30 or so, you could jump up to a dual core.

I'm pretty sure an X1950 Pro would be a lot faster than the X800GTO^^ Likewise for the HD3850.

The closest recent card would be something like the HD3650.

HD3650 (720MHz/800MHz 256MB GDDR3) 4ROPS DX10.1 (UVD)

but i don't know if you can find them in AGP ver.

Also you have to consider that the above cards if you run them with DX9.c codepath, there is the possibility to be slower than your X800GTO (400MHz 12ROPs DX9.b) in some games.

I searched Newegg, the only good deal i think is the:

The machine won't boot with the card anymore. It just sits there during POST. Swapped in an old card and it boots.

I'm running Win 7 now, with an Asus socket 939 Athlon64,2 gigs memory.

Thanks for the input, I think I'll just get another x800GTO for $42 with $12 shipping. It worked fine for what I need.

Which card is faster/better. An x800 Pro, or an x800GTO? I bought a card that was advertized as an x800GTO, but my machine and Everest identify it as an x800 PRO. It has a sticker on it that says x800GTO.

The official specs (if i remember correctly was)
X800pro 475MHz core 12 rops
X800GTO 400MHz core 12 rops

so X800pro is around +20% faster.

They are very similar. I guess both chips are based of R420:
