Old news yes, and if they can't be sure of the transistor count (come on....160-180? which is it?), it's FUD.

You do realize that all of those chips will be essentially *from* the exact same chip being fabricated right?

If history is any indication, sure, but only until they release the next-gen product that will take its place but perform slightly worse due to its lack of those extra disabled pipelines (a la R9500P/R9600P).

There is no way ATI can sell those cards at those prices !

If the 6800Ultra really is $399.99 then it'll rip ATI's 399.99 priced 12-pipeline card a new one !

I am soooo excited to see 6800 non-ultra performance. At qcon last year they gave out coupons for $100 off an nvidia 5900 and if they do the same with a 6800 product my money is theirs !

299.99 means it'll be 225~250 by mid summer. Mid summer is my birthday and ~225 is my videocard buying sweetspot !

Yes I do, and if there is a difference in Transisitor count it should be noted in the spec listed for the particular GPU data. That's why I personally can't give this information any credence. That's why I suspect this has been made up.

One of those suspect Inquirer articles mentioned that maybe ATI's 12 pipeline card was not far behind NV's 16 pipeline card. That would suggest that ATI's 16 pipeline card could be faster than NV's.

If you believe the Inq. 😀

We exclusively reported earlier that Nvidia's GeForce 6800 Ultra was being pitched to deliver a mighty impressive score of 12535 under Futuremark's 3DMark 2003. Furthermore we said that that some information had leaked out of the bowels of R&D Labs which indicated that in a comparative test between ATI R420 and Nvidia NV40 engineering samples, that whilst R420 was "behind" it wasn't that far behind.

If the R420 tested there was a 12x Pipeline part, how does that bode for a next gen ATI accelerator with 16x Pipelines? Rather well, we'd say.

12 or 16?

True about the transistor count thing. Either it is 160 or 180 there is no inbetween.

They could be discounting the disabled pipelines from the total of the SE and the Pro.

Does anyone else think that the X800SE looks like a total rip off at $300? With 8 pipes and only a 128-bit memory bus, it looks to me like an OCed 9500Pro than anything else.

Until we know some numbers, it's hard to say.

On paper, it looks like it could be slower than a 9800XT, which would be sad.
If it's actually faster than a 9800XT, then it could be good, and it would be a good sign for the speed of the higher end R420's.

Actually, the specs of the X800SE are 450Mhz core clock and 800Mhz Memory, so there is every chance its going to be fast....

not to mention an extra 2 vertex shaders, and a much more avanced AA/AF engine, and more powerful compression capabilities. r420 will rock.
