Hi guys.

MY brother needs a new video card for his Athlon 3000. Which card would you prefer, Radeon X1950GT 256 Mb or Geforce 7600 GT 256 Mb?

I would prefer the radeon myself, however, I'd go with whichever is cheaper. I don't think that CPU is going to be fast enough to take advantage of either really. Is it an AXP 3000 or an a64 3000?

Radeon 1950GT if you have a good power supply and want to game at higher resolutions with AA/AF on.

7600GT if you want a cooler, quieter, less power hungry card and usually play at 1280x1024 or lower.

Hmm, I found a Geforce 7600 GT with 512 Mb RAM for the same price as the Radeon X1950GT 256 Mb. Does that change things?

He has Athlon 64, btw, and the power supply is fine.

Yes, I don't believe that cpu will be able to keep up with either of those cards. Also, the x1950 is faster than the 7600. Upping the ram won't change that, especially if he plays on lower resolutions

Cards in the 7600GTs range aren't usually fast enough to take advantage of the extra RAM.

Its a lot like GF 6200s with 256MB RAM on them. Its pretty much useless.

I am in Denmark, not USA, so offers on newegg will unfortunately not fo me any good. Thx, anyway.

OK, here are my options:

Radeon X1650 Pro for about $140
ATI Radeon X1950 GT for about $220
Geforce 7600 GT 512 Mb RAM for about $220
Geforce 7600 GT 256 Mb RAM for about $180

The computer is an Athlon 64 3000+ with 1 gig of RAM.

Someone make the decision for me :)

X1950GT will give you the most performance for the money. Buy it.

If you are able to spring for another Gig of RAM, that will also be a nice performance increase as well, even with the A64 3000. Has the processor ever been overclocked? What motherboard does he have??
