from the big "I" the inquirer

I know that in games such as FEAR Nvidia is loosing significantly to R580 as much as fifty per cent faster in some scenarios. But don?t worry it won't beat Nvidia in every case I still believe that Nvidia Geforce 7800 GTX 512 have the strength to win in a few games.

it can beat the GTX 512, but maybe not in every case....so how does it expect to compete with the G71(with it's rumored specs)????

X1900XTX better outperform the 7800GTX 512, or ATI is screwed... NV is going to launch the 7900's in Marchm which are definitley going to outperform the 7800GTX 512, and ATI is going to need a card that can keep up with that.

I guess the next focus might be on price. X1900 appears to be inline with X1800, but will a 700MHz, 32 pipe G71 be inline with the GTX 256 (widely available below MSRP) or the GTX 512 (not so available, way above MSRP)? I'd be surprised if a 625-650MHz X1900 will be competing with a 700MHz 7900 at the same price, but I wouldn't mind.

SOunds like G71 wont have to be 700mhz to beat R580 if this is true, but I highly doubt that R580 will only be faster than a 512 GTX most of the time.

well its a problem with they way they went. i am hearing they are winning by 50% against Nvidia 7800GTX 512mb in somegames like fear and in other games they are just beating a 7800GTX 512mb. I have my prediction that ATI willdo great in FEAR , Source Engine , Farcry , Elderscroll 4 Obvilion and COD2 . Nvidia need to fix its IQ problem in FARCRY and BF2 !!! but G71 will win overall if nvidia can pull off a 700MHz speed with all its 32 pipeline which is crazy i think ( i highly Doubt that nvidia will get a good die with G71 at speed so it maybe another 7800GTX 512MB at $750). but then ATI can launch back with a another card by then as they will have enough time to counter attack. well in 12 days ATI R580 are coming out and ATI should be able to counter attack as Nvdiai did with teh 7800GTX 512mb.

Have a 7800GTX and it has never given me any complaints about IQ in those games...

You probably haven't noticed it, I never did till I went looking for it.

In Far Cry, go into the jungle, stop, look at the shadows on your gun. They look blocky.

When you move they blur and move so you wouldn't notice then, and you need to be studying the shadows on your gun to notice it. They are rendered incorrectly though.

Yeah if you have the time to a search (im not, too lazy) there's a guy who posted screen shots showing the bad IQ.

Oblivion shouldn't perform any better on ATI's hardware than on nVidia's. Morrowind always performed better on the equivalent nVidia card (5700 vs 9600 & 680 vs X800Pro).

I think morrowind is ENTIRELY different than Oblivion. But I guess we will know within a few months;)

I am only basicing it on the fact that Oblivion:

1. its getting developed for Xbox 360 ! ATI GPU optimization DX9
2. The game is heavily relent on Shader which I read from a developer interview article and this is one of the ATI major improvement upgrades for R580.

we will see :! the game comes out about the same time as G71 so we should see some good benchmarking at high res 1600x1200 AA8x AF 16x from firing squad atleast :)

Also morrowind is engine is an old... Just take one look at game and you will see it is nothing like ELderscroll 4 in graphic terms :)

Also The developer were parsing ATI for R520 GPU and R500 XBOX 360 GPU. The game you maybe thinking about would be UT :) and the developer of that game is Epic and Epic is Nvdia's bitch. Epic will always develop game that favor Nvidia card.

Anyways it will all fall down to : which card can do HDR + SHADER 3.0 :) better.

No doubt- LOL @ the Inquirer.

"We hear a X1900XT will beat nVidia's last gen card"

Wow! There wouldn't be much point in releasing it if not, the X1800XTPE beats the 512 GTX in some scenarios. How often do companies go backwards?

i didn't think Rollo could see ANY nVidia "flaws"

i guess it's well-documented

LOL at the title

The x1900 better as hell beat the 512gtx in ALL cases and it better as hell leave it completely in the dust in shader-heavy games if they want to compete well with the g71. And if those engineers want to keep their jobs...

Seriously. It seems like rumors of the R580 went from "Complete domination of last gen cards!!" to "Well, it should beat the last gen cards in some cases." I'm hoping for some good competition this round and if the R580 only beats the last gen in a few cases than I don't know if there will be much. I hope ATI has some surprises up their sleeve for us.

i posted this link because i think it's nothing but BS, the x1800xt competes nicely against the 7800GTX 512, so i would see no reason why the x1900xtx wouldn't fair much better, and not in just some cases.
The Hexens were right that with the fast CPU you can get around 13500 in 3Dmark05
I know that in games such as FEAR Nvidia is loosing significantly to R580 as much as fifty per cent faster in some scenarios
after all it's the Inquirer:)

Actually it doesn't really HAVE to do anymore than beat the 512GTX at shader heavy games if the pricing is right for it to be a good product IMO. Options are always good, and if the G71 beats it in everything but costs $700, and this card costs $550, there should be a market for both.

My guess is that few games now require the shader power this card will offer, so for most games the G71 will be more powerful. Time will tell.

So, how come the X1900 keeps getting compared to the GTX 512. I REALLY DON"T CARE HOW IT COMPARES TO THAT CARD. I'm sure that it destroys the GTX 512 in every game, but isn't it kind of irrevalent???? What really matters is how it compares to a G71. Sure its nice to know that it beats out the GTX512 and can show us some insite on it's performance, but the real test should be against the G71. (and too bad theres no rumers on how that performs)

Yeah it is irrelevant how it compares to the 512MB GTX. Since the chances of you finding one to buy new is pretty slim... about 2% (number out of my butt).

If G71 is 32 pipes like predicted at 700 mhz then I agree, it should beat the R580 in most cases but it will probably cost quite a bit too. Long term I bet the R580 would be a better card but that is irrelevant with R600/G80 on the horizon. I still think ATi will have a "PE" edition as an answer to G71.

New cores are not easy to design. I welcome quick refreshes and in this case these cards are major refreshes given the changes they have compared to R520/G70.
