Radeon Video playback problems, pixel blocks?? Worse then geforce:(

I have a radeon le, i'm pretty happy with it except for video playback. Compared to my geforce it seems to be missing filtering or something, i see pixel blocks or alaising .. not natural at all, the geforce had a sort of blur filter at any resolution. I run dvds at 1600x1200 my desktop res. This happens in a window or full screen. Text gets a little ugly sometimes, anyone know why? Is there a feature i'm not turning on or is the radeon inferior.

Lower the resolution. 1600 is too much. When I do that it gets choppy.

Its not choppy by any stadard, i'm just griping at the output quality. Resolution shouldn't matter in this generation of video cards, my viper 770u(tnt) could pull off good video at 1600x1200, and of course the geforce could.
