Radeon, To Buy or not to Buy?

I'm considering of getting a ATI Radeon 32mb LE DDR. Any ideas i should get it for $139.00 Canadian when the GF3 is right around the corner? I'm also thinking of picking up another 128mb ram. Think i should get these upgrades? my current system specs is in my profile. Btw, one more question, what kinda performance gain would i get from my TNT2 to the Radeon?

radeon and gf3 shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence. Two totally different cards and price ranges. I personally love my AIW radeon. IT does everything i want it to nicely

<< Get a GeForce 2 MX instead. If you want DDR, get the GeForce 256. >>

Seeing as though the LE is quite a bit superior your strategy would be rather ludicrous wouldn't it?

MX? 256? gotta be kiddin me...

u have viper 770 with p3-600, i say wait for now, after Geforce3 comesout either the price will drop alot or Radeon2 will comeout faster. I say you machine is ok for now. wait 1 month and just look for good deals, if u can get LE for $80 just buy it, that's half what i paid for mine (Radeon DDR) but it seems to be the same thing after u do little registry change.

I say wait for the geforce3 to come out & lower some of the other videocard prices. If you can't wait get the geforce2 mx. I brought the aiw radeon retail, & it wasn't worth it, I notice no dvd qualtiy improvement over the geforce2 when watching my animated movies. It's compatibility is worst than the geforce2 with some of my games, like monkey island 4, looks better with & without fsaa on the geforce2 than the aiw radeon. I ended up returning my radeon for a full refund.

Yeah, just get the RAM now, since RAM is dirt cheap and probably won't get much cheaper. If you wait a little bit, you might be able to get the higher end Radeon/Geforces for close to the price you are looking at.

If anything, if you are upgrading, I would advise against getting an MX. The Radeon DDR LE will beat the MX in almost all of the tests, except for the low resolution 16bit test. But who would want to play with those settings? Also the DVD playback is better, 2D image quality, and it is only $85 shipped. (www.newegg.com)

where is it for 139 canadian i am in toronto????? and do you know if the pci version is out yet and if it the same price

voodoo 4 can probably last you 3 months at least. Wait for the next generation cards to come out.

I agree here with most, wait till GF3 is out and in stores. I'd say about 2 months would be good then look at other cards as the prices will drop accross the board. Personally, I have a GeForce DDR and I'm looking for the Ultra to drop after GF3 is released.

With an aged system like The_Lurker has, more than likely he also has a 15" or 17" monitor, (based on his other specs).

If so, and with that 500@600MHz CPU, the MX will outperform the Radeon at the resolutions he would normally use. Many here say a blanket statement like "Radeon is faster than MX" but that is simply false information. Even in 32bit, it depends on what O.S. you have, what CPU you have, what size monitor you use, and what resolutions you run at. The_Lurker system is a perfect example of a system that the Radeon will not be any faster than the MX, and will in fact be slower in many games.
