Radeon still giving me probs on K7S5A!!!!

I have tried every trick in the book to get my Radeon to work in my ECS K7S5A mobo, but it simply won't work. I tried cleaning the gold contacts on the card with an eraser. I have the current BIOS and AGP drivers! I have fooled around with the BIOS till my head hurts. Oh yeah! no 5 beeps at post so the card is seated properly! Yeah and I dont think that it is my mobo since I hav an 8 meg RageXL working fine in it!

I have the RadeonLE w/tv and I had it oc'ed with powerstrip in my IWILL KK266 and it worked great. When my KK266 died I bought the ECS mobo. I did fool with my Radeon a little bit. I was going to get a fan for it so I took of the heatsink, but I decided not to run the fan so I glued the heatsink back (noise concerns). I am 100% sure I didnt screw anything up when prying off the heatsink.

The problem is that my screen has choppy vertical sections of the screen at the bios screen. I can boot into winXP and the card works clearly at the lowest res and color possible. Which 800x600 and 4 bit color I believe. When I set my res higher and color at even 16bit my screen gets choppy again! I know it isnt a incompatibilty with card and mobo since I have talked to several people with same card and mobo working fine!

Do you think my cards BIOS is bad? Can I fix that? Do you think that I should revert to an older mobo BIOS? Is my Radeon bad? Should I get a new mobo? If I buy anoth card do you think that I will have same prob? My 8meg Rage XL is AGP 1.0 / 2x card only! Do you think my mobo doesnt like AGP 4x cards?

I dont want to buy a new mobo since I would have to get DDR ram and prices are so high right now!

Sounds to me like you messed up your card, my roomie did the same thing to his GeForce 3 and he was having the exact same type of trouble you are. I have the 8500 and the K7S5A and it works great

Hey its just what I think, I could be wrong, but I bet a differant Radeon works fine

I am starting to wonder that! I dont know for sure if even any 4x card works! I just realized that I didnt have the right BIOS!!!!! I had the non-lan BIOS and I needed to flash the LAN BIOS. Geeze so my LAN is back. Well at least I even got this board to work since it originally would'nt even do 133fsb! I flashed the BIOS and I finally got it stable at 133FSB. Do you think I should try the card again now that I have the right BIOS? Will it even matter? The orginal LAN BIOS didnt work with card!

Well if I had another card I would try it!!!! My RageXL works fine for a 8meg RageXL!!!! I am concerned with the board not so much the card. I can get another card for real cheap, but will that card work? I dont want to get another board with Ram prices so unreasonable.

Was the Radeon working on the KK266 after you took off the heatsink and reapplied it? Or did you take off the heatsink after your Iwill died?

If you took it off after, have you tried it on another system to see if it works on another comp since you took the heatsink off?

i have k7s5a board with radeon 32mb DDR LE with Tv-Out.
running just fine.

since you can get it to run at safemode...
chances are it's not a contact point issue...
but that whole thing about vertical choppiness...
that concerns. me.

boot your computer to dos.
does it still have the same issue?

if it does... then rma the card.
it's not worth digging through trouble shooting that far down.

if on dos, everything looks good.
then, i'd say... clean install your windows.
try that. i think it's your other ATI driver (rageXL) colliding with your Radeon driver.

I have a K7S5A with Radeon LE also. It sounds like your Radeon went bad, defective memory I'd guess. Something might have happened when removing/reattaching the heatsink.

I believe I had the Radeon in my IWill after the heatsink was pulled, but the Iwill wouldnt boot correctly do to a bad power supply. Do you think my IWill that must have continuly restarted on and off for god knows how long could have ruined my Radeon? I didnt have the heatsink off for very long when it was in my Iwill though!

Well since it doesnt work at the BIOS screen I didnt think it would work in DOS! I'll give it a shot though!

I bought the card at newegg.com awhile back though! Like july!

I'm still having a hard time believeing something went wrong when removing the heatsink. I'm telling you guys that it worked in my Iwill at the bios screen with the heatsink off. My IWill would use toomuch power or something when it got to windows and reboot.

It wasnt on very long and I felt it after I pulled it! It wasnt even warm! Remember the RadeonLE is only clocked at 143mhz core and memory by default.

Okay well guys! I rma'ed my board at Newegg.com awhile back I think I might send it to them if I can and buy an Iwill XP333R!

<< If the card was powered up without a heatsink, there's a very good chance it overheated. >>

Yes a very very good chance, it doesn't take long

what? you ran it without a heatsink on iwill?
why would you do that? i understand that radeon LE cards don't run very hot...
but it doesn't make any sense to run without it.
even if it's for a few secs.

hmm... how long did you run it for? without a hs?

your card might still be good...
but i'd say that you've knocked off some life time of that card.
