Ok, sorry, I feel dumb, this is a stupid question but I don't have the time to look it up. Can you guys tell me the difference? I see one is a LOT cheaper than the other (OEM?), but WHY?
It is a lot cheaper because it #1 does not come with a fan (only comes with a bigger heatsink, however this is easily countered by adding a 40 or 50mm fan), #2 it comes with hyper-z in direct3d disabled, however this can also easily be modified using a few registry tweaks. Basically save your money to buy the LE and spend about 10 m inutes to get it optimally working.
After about 10 mins of tweaks it is the same thing 🙂, but about half the price of a Retail one. Oh, I forgot to mention that this card is not actually manufactured by ATI. It is made by some other company. However, you can still use all of the drivers that ati makes. I really LOVE this card, and it has performed awesome for me. I dont' really care that it was manufactured in China by some other company, because it gives me the exact same results.
I've used the OEM Radeon DDR card in several home built computer and was able to use power strip to overclock all to at least 180 Mhz. with solid stability. I'd love to enable hyper z. Could you please explain how to change the registry to enable this feature. Please be very exacting in your instructions becuase I'm not familiar with registry commands...Thanks!!
If they are normal OEM cards that have a fan and a 166 default clock, HyperZ is enabled by default. If it has a passive HS and a default clock of 148, its an LE.
i bet they are manufactured in the same factory, just with no ATI logos so that ATI doesnt have to support it. Creative labs does that too, if you look at the OEM CL geforce2 gts that Dell uses they have no creative labs markings, these are basically the same as the ones untamo in forsale/trade sells. great value all around, awesome 2d and dvd playback
