My god, now Mac users can appreciate the pure crappiness of ATI's cards just as much as PC users!!!!

And before you guys blast me, you should know that I have owned both Nvidia and ATI cards.

I had a Voodoo Banshee in my old PC. Never caused me any problems. Good card.

Then, I got a GeForce 2 GTS. Still, no problems, good card.

Got a GeForce 3 TI200. Great card, unbelievable overclockability, no problems.

Got a Radeon 8500 (retail). WORSE performance (even after a format), tons of bugs, and lots of problems. Only thing that was better was multimedia capability. And even that was buggy.

Got a GeForce 4 TI4200. Great card. No problems.

I still believe that ATI builds a MUCH better card (Radeon 8500 had potential to destroy GF3, and didn't even require a fan!) but whoever writes their drivers is on crack. It's a real shame to see good cards brought down by bad software.

lets see...
gf256, got it in march 2k, the original drivers weren't very stable. i had to wait for nvidia to go from 3.x to 5.x drivers. the card was golden after that

gf3 ti200, overclocks like a mofo, but the drivers that we for that series of card caused the game i bought it for to go haywire. i had to piece together two different driver sets to get a set that enabled the features but didn't cause daoc to go haywire. the latest drivers are fine. oh, and quake3 doesn't work. never has. not even on a fresh install of win2k.

radeon 7500 AIW, for some reason it keeps copying shows to F: rather than H:. overclocks pretty well too. actually its not overclocked because the memory is certified for 200MHz and default is 183. but that extra GB/sec comes in handy.

Actually, there's ways of getting a GeForce 2 MX200 to run CS at a steady 99 FPS.

:( I didn't know they'd work in a mac straight out of the box.....
I had to flash EVERY single voodoo card with the Mac BIOS to work in any of my Macs.
Someone was working on developing a flash uitlity for ATI Cards, but hit some kind of a roadblock.... can't remember, it was a while ago when I was reading about it. You may wann check over at XLR8 Your Mac and do some reading...

Yeah, you will either need the Mac version of the video card or need to flash the ROM of the video card in order to get it working. I highly doubt it will work properly straight out of the box unless it is the Mac version of the card.
