Radeon.....No Hyper Z?

Hello! I ordered a Radeon 32 meg DDR card on Monday for a friend of mine. He's currently running a 366 celeron with a 4 meg Riva 128 video card. The site that I went to to order the card was newegg.com since they had free shipping. I was just noticing today that it says the Radeon has no Hyper Z? What exactly does this mean? I thought they ALL had Hyper Z.....guess I was badly mistaken! 🙁 He's planning on upgrading to a 1 gig or higher Athlon in a couple of months but I was wondering about this Hyper Z thing. I know it makes a difference.....I just don't know how much....and WHY some of the cards don't have it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I've seen that some value editions of the Radeon line does not have HyperZ enabled by default. But since HyperZ is a software/driver thing it can be modified. A seemingly asia-only version of the card called Radeon LE can get HyperZ enabled this way: http://www.geocities.com/tnaw_xtennis/RadeonLE-H.htm

It's likely that the same operation works with any other Radeon cards currently having HyperZ disabled. I guess that the Euro/US version Radeon VE has the same little issue.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ATI Technologies\Driver\0000\atidxhal]
"EnableWaitUntilIdxTriList2"="1"
"TableFogEnable"="1"
"WFogEnable"="0"
"ZFogEnable"="1"
"DisableHierarchicalZ"="0"
"DisableHyperZ"="0"
"FastZClearEnabled"="1"
"Vsync"="0"
"AntiAlias"="0"
"ZFormats"="15"
"ExportCompressedTex"="1"
"DitherAlpha"="1"
"ExportWBuffer"="0"

HyperZ is enabled with these keys:
"DisableHierarchicalZ"="0"
"DisableHyperZ"="0"
"FastZClearEnabled"="1"

Thank you guys very much for your help! We'll try that once my friend's card gets here! If I have any more problems, I'll know where to come to! 🙂 Thanks again!

That card is a Radeon LE. It also has a lower clock speed. You can use Powerstrip to bring the speed up to that of a normal card. On the C366 I don't think it will matter. Once you upgrade, it will.
