Radeon LE troubles

I just got this Radeon LE yesterday. I have been having nothing but trouble with it. I've installed like 5 different driver sets, including a few clean installs. I also have tried it with VIA 4.25 and 4.29. Now, I have already formatted and reinstalled everything and I have the drivers installed that came with the ATI cd. I keep getting random lockups and weird errors. When I tried to run the Radeon's Ark demo the monitor went into sleep mode for some reason. I tried playing DVD's and that locked up. This is crazy, ATI's drivers are freaking pathetic!! :| I would love to get this card to work right. The few times I did get some games to play it ran very well in 32bit color mode. The 2d is a lot sharper than my previous MX. I have tweaked this card up to the regular Radeon level too.

Can someone help me here. This is driving me crazy!

Have you check out the guide at rage3d.com?

I'm guessing there's some leftover Nvidia driver stuff in your Windows registry.

Format as in the whole harddrive? If you've done that already, then try without soundblaster card first. Do you know which PCI slots of your board have their own IRQ's? Check if Radeon is sharing with any.

BTW, Via drivers in WinME's pretty good already. Windows online update will get you a new AGP driver and you should be fine.

Ok, right now I have just the VIA 4.29 drivers, the Radeon drivers off of the cd which are 3063, and DirectX 8.0. I don't have the SBLive! installed or anything. I have still gotten a few more random lockups just navigating around my desktop. The card is not tweaked or anything and I haven't tried any 3d games yet. I am going to try some now and tell you what happens. Hopefully everything will run fine.

Well, I keep getting these random lockups on my desktop. What the hell is wrong with ATI and drivers???!!! Every single set I have tried so far has been acting up. Who knows the best driver version to get?

First, did you install Directx 8? Are you running WinME?

Second, you said you hacked it to be a regular 32 MB DDR, then you said you didn't tweak it or anything, so which is it? And have you tried the 7089 drivers after a clean install?

This is what I have after a clean install of ME. Installed the VIA 4.29 and DirectX8. Then I installed the vid drivers. No, I have not tried 7089 on a fresh install. I am going to do that right now and see if anything improves. After that I am formatting and installing 98SE and going from there.

You can try not installing Directx 8, some people said that their systems died after they installed that, and everything was working fine before.

Clean install
let windows detect card as generic card, will update drivers later...

Install via 4.29 drivers 4 in 1(reboot)

Install direct x 8.0 (reboot)

Update vid card drivers use latest ati ones, and do this in device manager. (do not reboot)

go to start - run - msconfig- startup - uncheck atipolab and atigart file (reboot)

failure to uncheck those two caused probelms and lookups in mine.
