Radeon LE 190/190 gives artifacts in 3Dmark.

I hit 196/196 with the LE. All seems fine but I started getting artifacts on the screen. Any way to fix it, or have I reached the limit of the card?

I get off color triangles (usually silverish) during a really heavy render load. They are very brief, but irritating. I have a socket 7 fan on teh heatsink. It seems to do a great job. 190/190 without the artifacts! Not bad for an $80 card!

Yea, looks like ur at the edge. Most LE's don't go past 190/190. Be carefull tho. Some people report that when near the limits of the card, performace actually decreases. For example, my friend's LE will do 55fps at 180/180, but go down to 51 fps at 185/185, even tho there wasn't any noticable artifacts.

So do some testing so see if u are losing performace by oc'ing the card too much. Dunno why this happens, I've only seen this happen to Radeons.

evil, that's the case w/ probably every card...i've had the experience of having decrease in performance at the limits of overclocking with virtually ever piece of hardware i've owned that's overclockable (except cpus perhaps - barring my UMC U5 486SX33 which was slower at 40mhz)..

it's most likely due to excess heat, etc., tho even if cool it does it as well in some cases...it may be the fact that certain chips are optimized to run at certain speeds...

Mine would only do 185MHz I think, the last one I got that is. The first one I got did up to 200MHz.

Geez pidge, how many have you had?! =) But I think 185 is a good enough speed already, especially for a what, $77 card now?

My US$74 GF MX2 does 210/230 :)
Have a look here at the review that made me buy it! It's in Chinese but the tables etc are in English etc

I have pushed mine to 192/192 with a increase in fps over 185/185 and saw no artifacts...

my 3dmark scores (default): amd T-bird 750@840 256mb pc133@149

180/180 = 5348
185/185 = 5476
192/192 = 5535

I agree it seems to be decreasing in effective jump per boost...I mainly run it at 183/183 now...

I have heard the same story of decreasing numbers past a certain point, but really don't know why for sure (have an idea)

I have a large 120mm fan blowing across the heatsink and newly placed 4 ramsinks...My concern is not the heat off the gpu (even at 192/192 it barely got warm) but the ram...I heard it was rated 166mhz so much more than 12% gain will be tough most don't get that out of good infineon or crucial ram. There lays the limit I think...I also think running too high ie 190 plus may cause these ram chips to fail...I ran my first card up to 195/195 worked great for several runs, turned computer off fired up next day couldn't get 148/148 to run without artifacts. First ram chip would get burning hot while gpu and 3 other ram chips were luke warm. I rma'd it...Now I keep this at 183 which is a healthy 10% gain over ram rating (25% over my le stock) with ramsinks and ample air being blown across it...I feel this card will be around for me to enjoy all the features this card was built for that GAMES DO NOT EXIST TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF!!

gtd 2000, the comparison lacks...230 for memory on the GF2 card is not better than ddr ram which effectively at 166mhz is running 333mhz.

Most reviews I have seen show stock radeons hammer GF2 mx cards in 32 bit performance rivaling close to gts speeds...

yeah guess so...but for US$74 it's not a bad card - I get 5290 in 3Dmark2000 btw :)

That is a good deal...better then I thought that card was selling for...3dmark score is good as well...I am trying the new tweaking program and going to try to set clocks asynch. Some reports have increase scores though questionable if fillrate decreases. going for 205/190. As I said above the gpu is not the weak link it is the ram hence leaving it at 190 which is probably the limit. One guy reported a 200 plus boost in score over 190/190...so I am going for 5750

I'll back it down to 185/185 and test it to see if I get a boost. I went from a G400 Max dual head to this Radeon LE. My 3D mark went from 2095 to 3500 (approx.) without any tweak. The LE at 190/190 gives me 5397!

My System:

TBird 800 @ 888
Gigabyte ZX-1
128 MB PC100 Cas2 (I have PC133 ordered)
30GB ATA100 HD
Santa Cruz sound card
realtek NIC
Radeon LE @190/190
50X CDROM

Duvie - just retested my MX in 3DMark2000 guess what my score is now 5605 3DMarks :)
hopefully this is the RESULT but I'm not sure how to link to my results
This was with 200/210 settings :)
Now running my Duron at 933Mhz with Turbo and CAS2 settings to give a Sandra Membenchmark of 556/583 also - these abits and MX2's are so tweakable :)

I've heard that if you run the clock/memory asynchronous it will actually decrease performance. ATI set it up so they have run together or something like that.
