Radeon is in 1x mode, need some help from via chipset Athlon owners

Spoooon

System specs:
Athlon 550
Abit KA7 latest BIOS
Radeon DDR using 7062 drivers

The vid card is in 1x mode. When I try installing Via's AGP driver in turbo mode, it'll get to the desktop and then either lock up or restart. If install the AGP driver in standard mode, everything works fine. Any ideas? I have 4x mode and sidebanding enabled in the bios. Other than an increase in voltage, all BIOS settings are typical.

Nice OC...

As you have probably noticed...the performance difference between 1X and 4X is really small. I installed the driver in NORMAL mode too and switched on all the other AGP features in BIOS, I get over 75 FPS in UT in D3D @ 1024x768 w/ all the features set to max.

Edit: Oops...make that about 65-70 FPS sustained (minimum) and about 80-85 FPS average on UT (I was just playing again and realized my goof).

Yeah Rage3D has some good info. This combo is not exactly the best. To get mine to run with a minimum of lockups here is what I did. Set 3.3v to 3.5v, Disable 4x AGP mode, Set to manual AGP driving and set to 68. I have the VIA 4.25a set to turbo(I know this is for 4x but it runs so what the heck) and I have the 7041 drivers. How I miss the days of good intel chipsets that run both platforms and video cards that were trouble free(matrox Millenium).
