Has anyone used this card? I have found benchmarks running on Linux, and it beats the 8600. I will be using Xp. I am upgrading from a x800gto.

should be, but not a lot.

benchmarks say its actually slower.

the 2600XT runs at 800 core instead of 725. the 2600xt ddr3 has 1400mhz memory so the 3650 might be slightly faster, but probably slower than a 2600XT gddr4 or any pre overclocked models.

AMD said that the shader procesors are not even different between the 2 cards, so its just a die shrink, + pci 2.0 and dx 10.1 support @ lower clock speeds.

It's not hard to beat an 8600GT, which at stock clocks is about even with a 7600GT -- a midrange card from 2006. It's unfortunate that no true midrange offerings were available in 2007, and won't be in 2008 until the 9600s hit the shelves.

3650 is to a 2600XT as a 3850 is to a 2900XT from the benchmarks I've seen.

Are you forgetting that the 3850 is sold for about $160? It's priced in the midrange segment, and performs faster than any last gen high end card, nevermind midrange. It pretty much relegates all lesser cards into the "low end" category.

Are you forgetting that in 2007 when this card was released it was impossible to find even a 256 meg version under $200? Technically you are correct, it was priced by ATI to be a midrange card, and was released Q4 of 2007. I still stand by my statement that no true midrange offerings were *available* in 2007.
