Just to clear up the current pricing MISinformation that is being thrown around, a quick look at newegg RIGHT now shows the cheapest 5770 going for $130 with a $20 MIR and a 550ti going for $135 OR $150 with a $20 MIR.

And just so we're clear, every day prices of the hd5770 are NOT $100. Those are really good deals that either don't last long at all, aren't widely available, and usually need MIR's to reach that price point. I'm not saying the 550ti is worth the extra money over a 5770, and I'm not saying the 5770 can't occasionally be had for under $100, I'm just saying the lowest everyday going price for a 5770 is $110 AR right now, and the lowest going price for a 550ti is $130 AR right now.

Actually 5770 prices had been at $100 ans, sometimes, even at 90 for a couple of months, with the exception of the last couple of days.

I don't know what possessed newegg to charge more recently. But I could guess.

I also brought up the price of the 5770 in the gtx 550 thread.
You can use this site to track price history of newegg products.
Here is the Saphire 5770

UPDATE: We just learned that AMD has postponed the launch to the 5th of April, probably to give AIB's more time to get their cards ready for the market. We will have more information on this and the power usage issue later today.

Newegg has had 5770s for 99$ after MIR,
today the cheaper ones are 109$ after MIR (from a quick clance).

your bolded pricing is a bit misleading as you bolded the before rebate price of the 5770 against the after price of the 550ti.

Thats interesting in and of itself, but one model, from one vendor, from one retailer does not make really show a pricing trend or history of any statistical worth.
Your missing the point, i'm leading you or whoever to the water and they can clearly see that the 5770 is not a 100 dollar card. If I had chosen 5 popular models , they show a similar price. You would tell me those aren't the popular models.
There are occasion freak sales that approach 100 after rebate, but not the norm.

Huh? Right now today you can buy a power color branded 5770 for $115 with no rebate involved. With rebates, gigabyte sapphire and xfx models are available for $110 on newegg, today, in stock now. An HIS model is $105 shipped with rebate included.

I'd say 5770's with prices that "approach $100 after rebate" are completely the norm.

I'm gonna need a need card soon, and I was thinking this could almost be it.. But the power requirements are putting me a bit off.

I'll probably wait until the 6770 comes out, which will be a different chip and near 100 watts or less. I think that one is slated for April too..

You could always underclock it.

When are more 6xxx series cards coming out?

There are 2 threads going at once, I'll just post this here also.

Both the gts550 and 6970 are no good as long as there is gtx460 768 cards on the market for less than 130$.

MSi gtx460 768 with a 750 core clock (stock 675) for 130$ AR on newegg as we speak and a few others even lower.

Unless the 6790 beats a gtx460 768? who knows? I doubt it.

It would seem it has a relatively high power draw for it's capabilities, but the price seems good --- ~$130.

It's a good thing these chips aren't relatively power hungry to begin with. 5830 needed as much or more than the 5850, but it still wasn't outrageous. I'd expect the same for the 6790.

It will give the 768MB a run for its money. It's going to have more memory and higher memory bandwidth. The 5830 already gives the 768MB competition in the peformance department, and it looks like the 6790 will be generally faster than the 5830. At 1080p, there shouldn't be much doubt it will be faster.

No, I did not.

Unless newegg prices changed in the past hour, this is false and misleading.

I apologize. I did not see that 5770, it's only $5 cheaper AR but before the rebate it's no cheaper than the other currently lowest priced one on newegg.

Why are you arguing about the price of a 5770 or gtx550 when the gtx460 768 is still on the market?

Anyone buying either of those cards needs there heads examined with the gtx460 768 still on the market.

?

Prices don't stay the same throughout the life of a product. The 5770 and 550 are relevant if they happen to be cheaper than a 460.

"Being on the market" isn't what is important to the debate here.

5770 draws 50 watts less power than the 460.

You seem to have difficulty understanding that frames per second is not the only purchasing criteria for a video card.

6790 (if that is its real name) looks to be the 5830 part two. Good, fast card at a good price, but a bit high in the power consumption department. Looks like it's a 6870 with some shader units turned off.

At least the 6790 isn't really that much of a power hog in the scheme of things - 151W peak TDP is still ~100W less than the 6970 and GTX 580.

--------

I don't really like where AMD is going with their naming - the 6990 is a dual GPU card, while the 6790 is a single GPU cut down 6870. Why not just call it what it is - the 6830?

Lol Amd kicking nvidia in the nuts while their down looool

For some reason I think any sort of battle between low-end cards like these is done at the OEM level. I don't think this card is going to have an impact on anything except that particular segment, much like the 550.

I agree with this. Between Intel and the whole iX, and AMD's graphics cards....I feel sorry for people who are not educated on parts these days.

For the past month, NCIX has had at least one 5770 for 100 bucks after MIR

Powercolor Radeon HD 5770 PCS+ 875MHZ 1GB 4.9GHZ GDDR5 2XDVI HDMI DP DIRECTX11 Price: $100.09 CAD after $20USD MIR

Of you want to go slightly higher, for $10 more you can get a 5830

XFX Radeon HD 5830 HD583XZAFC 800MHZ 1GB 4.0GHZ DDR5 2XDVI HDMI DP PCI-E DIRECTX11 Video Card
Price: $110.14 CAD after $30USD MIR

From what I have seen, $100 is becoming the norm for the 5770
