yup, includes UVD so it should work well for that, and the fact that its passively cooled is another major boon for HTPC use

Does anyone know if this includes the HDMI adapter? I wasn't able to tell for certain from the Newegg or Sapphire sites.

if it doesnt you can buy a dvi -> hdmi adapter for cheap.

I know it's a HTPC card but would it be any good for gaming? is it comparable to a nvidia 7600GT or not even as good as that?

The 7600GT would plain kick the snot out of it.

Is there something special about the DVI to HDMI adapter that manufacturers would include with the ATI HD2000 and HD3000 series cards with built-in hd audio? Don't normal DVI to HDMI adapters only pass video?

Not sure if it comes with one, but look here for one for 3.63 DVI to HDMI Adapter

Thanks for the link. I took a chance and ordered the 3450, so I'll know sometime this week if it includes the adapter. Gotta love newegg fast shipping

This should work great in my new HTPC box - quiet and not much load on the PS.

If this has the onboard sound, it would go really well with that BD/HD-DVD combo drive posted in this forum.

FYI - a generic DVI-HDMI dongle or cable is fine for video only (and passed HDCP, etc.. ), however you are not going to get the HDMI audio unless you buy the ATI branded adapter.

Also, those of you freaking out about performance of this unit - keep in mind this card was not designed for the gaming market. This is a small, power efficient and cool running card designed for the HTPC crowd where video decode performance (H.264/AVC and VC-1 full CPU offload, plus improved UVD support over the 2400 series) and cool, silent operation are more important than raw GPU power. It's essentially a refresh of the existing 2400 Pro line with a bit more raw processing power and improved energy efficiency. For $50 it's a heck of a buy for an HDCP compliant, passively cooled card that will allow almost any modern PC with a pci-e slot to play back HD video clips, Blu-Ray/HD DVD movies, etc... smoothly.

This isn't a gaming card. Anybody suggesting that it sucks compared to any other card for gaming is missing the point.

yuppiejr is correct on both points. You need the ATI DVI-HDMI adaptor to pass audio without any issues. This is also a very interesting card for a pure HTPC machine.

The big question though, is will it perform better than the HD2400 series, which has been available at about this same price but always ranked slightly lower in picture quality (according to various online reviews) than the 2600pro/xt. If this 3450 card is comparable in quality to the older gen 2600, then this just became the perfect HTPC card at any price. In an HTPC, smaller, cooler, and quieter are what you want, not raw gaming power.

My 2 week old 2600XT could be obsoleted by this little $50 card. /cry

Card arrived today - no HDMI adapter. Bummer. The card itself has one VGA, 1 S-video, and 1 DVI. It comes with an S-video to composite adapter, an S-video to component pigtail, and a DVI to VGA adapter.

ATI/AMD sells their DVI-HDMI adapter here - $7.00 + shipping ($5 and some change in my case).

DVI-HDMI adapters are available elsewhere for less money, but I want to be certain that it will work for audio as well as video so I'm sticking with the name brand.

Do you think that adapter will carry audio for the 3xxx series as well?

In any case, thank you for the update. I was going to post a separate thread, but as a quiet reward for those following this discussion and waiting for it to come back in stock, I found it here.

No specs listed, but the same model # as the newegg card. It probably won't come with the adapter.

Awesome find. I was trying to find a vendor that has this in stock (let alone in their system) all day. It looks like the one from mwave is OEM maybe?

The ATI web site lists the adapter for the 2xxx series, but I'm confident enough that it'll work with the 3450 that I put in an order. I'll know for certain in 3 to 5 days 🙂
