Radeon HD 3450 card for $20 AR (+$7 shipping) at Newegg

OK deal since this is a weak card with 64-bit memory. Take a look at the Asus 2600XT loaded for the same price AR. That is a much better deal.

Why does the low profile bracket have to be two-slot? Anyway around it? I only care about the DVI and HDMI output. Does anyone know if it comes with a separate low profile bracket for those inputs?

Maybe you can find a generic single slot low profile bracket with dvi and hdmi. I know there are ones for vga and dvi, just not sure about a dvi and hdmi one.

It would be a hassle and break the deal. From a past experience, it'll be be $10 for a racket alone.

One word: Dremel.

Anyway, these are great for HTPCs. I wish they were this cheap when I picked up mine.

i picked one up today and didn't even know it was a hot deal... replacing an 8400gs that blacks out and returns sporadically whenever i use DVI

Currently out of stock. =/

The card came and I installed it. Everything looks good!

Everything looks good, but the audio gives me a bit of trouble. My TV (the HDMI audio output) displays fine as an audio output device on my Server 2008 box, but I don't get any sound. So, for now, I've reverted to sound card audio out while I troubleshoot my setup.

If anyone else has experienced this and knows the quick solution, I'll take it. But, if I have actual questions, I will ask them in the appropriate topics (Video Cards or Home Theater).

There is a driver for the digital audio that you need to install. Which drivers did you installed with the card? The CD or from AMD's website?

Say, what rez are you getting on your tv?

I can do 1920 x1080 with my onboard, but with my pcie 800xl, i only get 1776 x 1000. I have a RP 50 inch Sony tv connected via dvi.hdmi.

I have a pcie x800xl as well and it works fine for my 1080p lcd with dvi or vga. I have not tried hdmi.

Does this card have the h264 acceleration of its big brothers?

I get full 1080p with my new card.

I'm pretty sure it does. I bought this card specifically for the x264 decoding and HDMI (with audio) output (and the passive cooling).

This article implies the x264 acceleration.

I need a fanless, and preferably inexpensive, PCI-E graphics card and ordered one of these last night. I almost bought a Geforce 7300GT, but the HD 3450 only costs $6 more with shipping and should be a much more powerful card.

Can anyone provide a link to a review that includes a comparison between the HD 3450 and a Geforce 7600GS?

While I can't provide a link, I have both of those cards and I had difficulty getting the 7600GS to work in Vista. XFX and I went round and round. They said it was my motherboard and I said, "All of them"? Maybe it was just that one type of card, but they sent two replacements. The 3450 just worked. YMMV
