Ok heres the problem. I got my new ATI 32MB DDR. Installed base drivers from the cd. Tried out a few games. Everquest, Baldurs Gate II, Diablo II, etc. Everything works and looks great. Except I have a crash in Everquest. Not sure if it was releated too EQ or Ati or what. So I decide to install the newest official drivers from Ati. Well go to run Everquest and now it goes out of sync every time I launch it. Figure maybe its these drivers so I go and download the official beta drivers from Ati. Once again the monitor goes out of sync when I try to launch it. Anyone had or know how to fix this problem? I dont think its the video card as other games are running fine.

Now for my views of what I have seen. The 2d is outstanding. I mean I actually notice quite a difference in 2d between it and my Voodoo III which had really good 2D to start with. The 3D looks great. 32bit is not all what the Nividiots tried convincing me that it was but it is a small but noticeable improvement. DVD playback is everything that people claim it too be on the Ati. Not sure if thats a good thing as I now notice the pores in peoples faces. Its really that sharp. Drivers are extremly well layed out and very easy to setup and use. I really like ATI's taskbar control. Got everything you need built into one single click.

If anyone can help with the EQ problem please let me know. I did a uninstall of my 3dfx drivers and set the video back to Standard VGA before installing the Ati. I have considered a format but I have ALOT of stuff to back up and would prefer to procrastinate at least another few days. :p

Thanks for help.

Hmm after looking down below I need to update my system specs too.

Hmm after further testing it is going out of sync on several games. Including Q3 Arena, Half Life, and Everquest. But some games work fine. Oh well since there are no replies I guess I will get to backing my stuff up. Anybody know where to find the 7050 drivers? Also should I use them or some others?

Thanks,

Daniel

Are you sure you got rid of all the 3dfx driver files ? I had a similar problem when I first installed the card.

Actually it does it even after I formatted. Many games go out of Sync when I try to launch them. If I use any drivers other than the original cd. THis is quite frustrating. I cannot figure out what it changes in the d3d or opengl settings that makes it refresh too high for my monitor. Which supports up to 160hz. So it is going beyond that.

<< Installed base drivers from the cd >>

That could be the problem... download the most recent drivers (the beta), and EQ should be ok.. i had problems in EQ (especially fog) before the new drivers.

I have tried up to the 7020 beta drivers and each time I get the same problem. The monitor goes out of sync in quite a few games. It works fine with the drivers that are off the cd for the most part but its pretty frustrating that I cannot use any other driver from AMD without having my monitor try to refresh above 160 hz in games. And its not only Everquest. It happens in Q3, HL, and many more.

I just got up with my new system and a radeon 64mb retail. currently every game I have played is working great, like unreal tournament with all options on at 1024x768 not dropping below 30fps yet. my cousin is currently staying here and hes damn addicted to everquest playing for over half the day(god im getting sick of letting him use my computer and sit on his ass). anyways I don't have that wierd sync problem yet with any game and im using the 3056 drivers I think and direct x 7.0a. he told me that during some last patch for everquest the game has been stopping for him just in the last week, before that going all nighters without a problem. So I really don't know if this is an everquest issue as he told me the updates happen automatically when you start up the game, or an ati issue. My cpu and radeon are overclocked though and that could be my setups problem although I have left everything as is according to stability in everything I run and the image quality.

Yup, same here damac... every game i had worked great except Everquest, but now that's peeeeerfect.

Actually, my other computer with another Radeon is having problems though... when i go into UT the screen goes black, but the sound is working fine... i think it's because i still have residual TNT2 drivers in there, which i'll clean up tomorrow.

The problem with the other computer is the same one I am having. Its not because of residual effects from other drivers. Your monitor is going out of sync. THe game is working fine its just the Ati card is trying to refresh way too fast in the game. I have tried a few different refresh settings and all do the same from optimal on down. I even tried tunring vsync off and on in the ati panel with no change. My monitor is a Samsung 900p monitor and I have installed the latest inf file. If anyone has any idea how to change this please let me know. I am weary of even trying lightspeeds driver as I cant launch games with ANY other driver than the one on the cd. And its not a perfect driver as I have a few issues with it. Bad thing is I love the card. Everything that runs looks VERY NICE!!! But I need to get new drivers to fix some of the problems I am having.
