Radeon AIW 8500 causing the screen to scroll really fast!!!

I just got a AIW 8500 from a fellow anandtecher and when I installed it it ran fine, but then I loaded the drivers (DLed from ATI's site) and it restarted and then when windows would load up again the screen would scroll really fast, like there was something wrong with the refresh rate. I cant read or navagate the screen so I cant check any of the settings, and I was barely able to uninstall the drivers to bring it back to normal. Anyone have any ideas?

Update: I tried installing the drivers that came with the CD (dated 5/23/2002, version 6.13.10.6094) and they worked fine, so could it just be that the ATI new drivers arnt compatable? anyone know?

For what its worth,,,,
I have the regular ATI 8500 and have problems with latest ATI drivers.
I think its because the 8500 goes to DirectX8.1 and not 9.
Thats all I got....
