Radeon 9800XT...$450 at CompUSA

I still can't see paying that much for video card when it will be half that price within a year.

But, someone had to buy it and keep the companies going.

What he said. Besides this weeks flyer has it for $499. :Q ouch.

Why's everyone so up in arms over the price of the XT?

The BBA 9800 Pro 128mb version is going for around $350 still. The 9800XT gives you an extra 128mb of RAM, faster timings (OC's to 440/380 easily), AND a free copy of HL2 when it eventually comes out. That copy of HL2 effectively drops the price of the card by another $50, so the price of the card itself is really only $400 now. $50 more than a 9800 Pro!

which compusa were you at? I called a couple around southern california. They keep tellin me it's $499

And you are factoring the $50 drop for HL2 when you buy a 9800 Pro in this equation where? Not to mention that the 9800 Pro can be had for $300 quite frequently. Factor in this $50 drop from HL2 (which is bunk anyways, because the game will be cheaper than that during release week from quite a few places), and you've still got a $150 difference buddy.

Rochester, NY ...and they had alot of them. I'm guessing they're lowering the price to try and clear off the shelves.

that doesn't make sense, why clear them out? nothing new to replace it is out yet, now 9800 np and maybe pros are being cleared out at bb

the next generation games are still not mainstream. Let alone, some of those anticipated games are not even out yet.

Although I drool over the benchmarks of the 9800xt, I can't justify spending $500 on a video card, while my $100 GF4Ti4200 OC'ed to Ti4600 specs are giving me all the performance I need.

I'll just wait until HalfLife2 comes out (w/ Condition Zero). It's useless to buy 9800XT right now.

i blieve the xt does dual monitor, which for me could be a big fat deal over say
a radeon 9800 pro all in wonder.
which is my other choice.

either the 9800xt or the 9800 pro all in wonder.

=)

You can get it for $420 at dell... they currently have a %10 off and then you can stack the $35 off an over$450 purchase in the software and peripherals section under the home site. I can't believe i'm even contemplating this.
