Radeon 9800SE or Geforce 6200

So i havent been keeping up, and am thinking of getting a boost to my 9800SE ( softmodded). Would a 6200 be a better card?

The 6200 wouldn't be better than your 9800SE. 6200 is like a Geforce FX5200 with overclocking and new technology. I would save up and get a PCI-Express mobo with a Radeon X1800XT 256mb.

In AGP look at $200 6800GS. Otherwise save for PCIe rig. With AM2 in June and corner soon to follow, it'd probably a good time to retire the aging AGP system. That's what I am planning on doing.

agp 6200 cards can be unlocked to 6600 cards...

The word "better" is too open-ended, vague, and lacking in objective criteria. A movie buff deciding on a VGA card for his HTPC system wants a quiet card overall, and defines lower noise as "better".

gpureview only lists one, 128 Bit, 9800se, at its stock settings. But there are a half dozen different Geforce 6200 variations. The "fastest" of the 6200's, if speed was your primary criteria, is a bit slower, apparently, than a stock 9800se of the type they have data on:

The old/first batch ones could, but the new/current ones use a core that can't be soft modded.
