I've seen plenty of people do it with stock cooling no problems at all. You'll most likely have to have samsung ram though. Infineon or some of the other ram on these cards just won't cut it.Not impossible, but certainly not something you'll run on stock cooling.

This is actually one of the few cards worth flashing. Flashing to pro raises memory voltage, so the memory works at higher frequencies as well. Cards with Infineon RAM shouldn't be flashed because the RAM will most likely not work at pro speeds. Cards with samsung memory have a pretty high chance of working as a pro.
Of course, if you can OC the card to pro speeds at stock voltage, flashing is not necessary.
Try overclocking it without flashing. It probably won't work. Most infineon seems to hit a wall by the time you're up to 320mhz.My 9800 non-pro uses infineon RAM
