Radeon 9800, need resistor value

My little brother took a screwdriver to my Radeon 9800, but luckilly only broke off a single resistor. The resistor is R198, and is located on the back of the card, 1 cm above the AGP locking tab. I just need the resistance value.

come on guys, I know one of you has to have a multimeter and a 9800....save me the loss of my card please.

The hell is a multimeter? And this google thing... what's that? 😛 Seriously, just tell me what a multimeter is.

If there's a color code on the resistor (four colored bands) Google the resistor color code (or something similar) and use that to find the value.

If it's a surface mount, then that idea won't work.

Got a mulitmeter, but no 9800 🙁

I don't suppose you happen to have the piece anymore? Might be a dumb question...figured I'd ask. 🙂

Also, maybe it'd help to post the brand/model number of the card itself so that you get an exact match.
And when you buy a replacement, maybe get a precision resistor, or else test the value of each replacement to get close to the original value.

One last thing - is it wise to take a multimeter to a videocard? They put voltage into the circuit; if it passes the wrong thing, couldn't it cause damage?

I never found the resistor, smacking a card with a screwdriver has the effect of parts flying. And when you use an ohm meter, a small level of voltage is passed through the circuit, but it's so minute it couldn't damage anything....we are talking mV here. As for the model number, it shouldn't matter as it's a standard PCB design and this particular resistor is for the GPU, which has no change between BBA and PBA cards as they both have the same voltage needs. but anyways, here's the info requested.

Nebor, to answer your question, a multimeter is a meter with preset functions for testing electrical equipment. You can see voltage or amprage output, continuity, resistance....every modder should have one (including myself). You can get them for $20 or so at Radio Shack
