Radeon 9800 drivers

Before I play certain games, I shut down all applications that are running in the background to save on RAM. I have an ATI Radeon 9800 card, so that means I am shutting down the atiptaxx.exe and ati2evxx.exe processes. Should these be running when playing graphics-intensive apps?

The monitor seems to be fine without them, although it has been buzzing a lot on bootup lately.
 
It should be fine. I disable all of the extra ATI and Nvidia tray programs and haven't had any problems because of it.
