Hello all,
This is my first post here so hopefully i dont get castrated 😱 as a result but here is a synopsis of my problem:
-Recently i reformatted my Hard-drive and reinstalled win Xp-home on my system (Asus A7v133-C , 1.2 ghz Tbird, 512MB pc-133 ram, Radeon 9700Pro)
-WinXP recognized my radeon9700 pro as a 9500pro and installed default drivers. I went to ati's site and downloaded the latest Catalyst 3.1 drivers and also installed DX9.
-Also i installed all of the XP updates through Windows Update.
The card chipset is seen as Radeon 9700/9500 series, and the driver as Radeon 9500 series (numerous checks have substanciated that i downloaded 9700 pro drivers).
I installed 3dmark03 to check if perhaps my performance was lower than before (thinking maybe it was only an XP bug due to one of the updates) and oncemore the card shows up as 9500 pro. My 3dmarks were 2611 which was the same as before the reformat/reinstall (when the card showed up as 9700 pro).
-i dl'ed Entech Powerstrip and found out that my core was running @ 275 and memory somewhere around there. I boosted it up to 325 core/310 mem. (standard 9700pro settings). and ran 3dmark03 again. i got 3000 marks but there was a little bit of artifacting on the Ragtroll test.
I've reseated the card, checked the power connections, completely deleted the drivers and removed the card from the device manager to no avail. i've also done the same w/out allowing XP to install drivers (leaving the card *unknown*) and then manually installing a fresh set of drivers.
Without powerstrip the card reverts to 275core/ "265?" mem.
I bought this card retail and prior to the reformat WINXP saw it as 9700pro (but using powerstrip to manually set my settings to 9700pro settings NOW i get higher 3dmark scores...so this leads me to wonder what my actual core/mem was running to prior).
Seeing as the card is retial there should be no reason that i am forced into using powerstrip to force my settings up there, any ideas? (and it's not heat)
Sorry for the length. i just wanted to make this as full as possible. thank you
