Radeon 9700 with Intel 845WN

i just bought a Radeon 9700 for my brothers PC and his PC has an Intel 845 motherboard- i checked and it has an AGP slot but supports upto 4X while the card has 8X support specified on the manual. So will the card work with the motherboard? I mean its ok if it goes down to 4X but will it work ? Radeon 9700 with Intel 845WN

Yes, it should work just fine. Video cards are backwards compatible, so an 8x card will work with a 8x, 4x, or 2x AGP slot. As for the performance difference, there really isnt any between 8x and 4x.
