Also Sell the 9700Pro.

I was planning on doing just that, helping to offset the price. Does the 6800 have all the latest shaders on board? One great thing about my 9700 Pro is the pixel shading effects I see in Far Cry. That game simply rocks with those effects, as does Doom 3.

Yeah, but after reading that your 9700Pro has artifacts, I reconsidered selling it because that wouldnt be nice to the user who will buy your card.

6800 supports PS3.0 shaders and is just as "equipped" as the other 6800 cards.

Just look for yourself:

Doom 3 Performance

If you can spring a little more and want your card to last longer than 1 year, probably get a 6800GT.

IS your 9700p out of warranty? It's pretty close to 3 years . . .

two years, they have been out barely two years.
You're right!

. . . October will be two years since the 9700pro's launch . . .

RMA it . . . sell it . . . get a faster card . . . ;)

Suggestions?

If I were u I would wait till the next generation of cards to arrive -- skip the 9800 xt's, x800s, 6800's.

But since your getting bad performance from your current card, you might go ahead and get the 9800 xt.

Good one

EDIT: I was wrong about the heatsink. As a rule of thumb i look for this heatsink on the vid cards for an r360 core. didn't realize those HSF's are only on 256mb. my bad.

That 6800 sure is tempting. And I may even go crazy and save up for a 6800 GT. I can't afford the top of the line, but I might be able to squeeze enough out for a GT. We'll have to see.

My 22" inch monitor purchase comes first. :)

When are the 6600's supposed to be coming out? Sept? Those things should re-allign video card prices. i.e., that should force ATI to drop the hell out of 9800 pricing. If the 6600's MSRP for $199, you know that there will be deals, rebates, etc dropping the price down to $150ish.

Agreed I think this 6800 From leadtek is your best option. What ever you do DO not buy a 9800 XT. That would be a HUGE rip lol.

If you can wait and save I would go for a GT though.

they are both 8 pipeline cards while the XT is higher clocked then the 9700 Pro

I would suggest not upgrading and save some money until its time to do a real upgrade.
Like getting a 12 or 16 pipeline card.
either x800 pro or x800xt when it is available.

if nvidia, yes, aim for the 6800

They are supposed to be unveiled and benchmarked sometimes between Aug 12th and 15th....not sure when they will hit retail.

pff.... good luck with any of that. Look at how long it's taken 6800's you still can't ge them reliably even at MSRP....

Who knows though, maybe they will be smarter about their mainstream offerings.
