Radeon 9700 Pro Problems

Just built my first system-Asus P4C800E-Deluxe, P4 3.2 Ghz. 800 FSB, Corsair XMS Twin 1024-3200 LL, Thermaltake Xaser 111, 420W P/S. When I try to install drivers for the Radeon(Catalyst 3.8), I can't boot into Windows XP. I've installed the Intel Chipset Utility Update, I haven't flashed my Bios because the update doesn't show any relevant fixes, and tried manually adjusting Ram timings, but nothing works. I'ne heard about conflicts with my board and earlier versions of the 9700 Pro (which mine is), but still hoping to get it to work, I mean I wouldn't have spent the money if I had known about these possible problems. Any solutions out there?
