Radeon 9700...Low 3DMark Score...Why?

Hey guys, this is my first post and my very first question is why does my newly purchased Radeon 9700 PRO posted only 7185 3DMark Score when comparing to other Radeons Scored around 11000. Any suggestions, comments?

My System:

HP
P4 1.8
512 DDR SDRAM
Radeon 9700 PRO
Motherboard came with computer

Overclocking video card and faster cpu and memory. The faster the cpu the higher the score. I got around 11,000 with a ti-4400 at default settings. No playing with the lod or overclocking the video card. Using a 1.6A overclocked to 2.1 using 133mhz fsb running ddr 333.
Your score does seem really low though. What kind of chipset is it? Get the latest drivers for it. orb

Hmm my friend is using a 1.7+ Athlon (1.5 GHZ) and gets around 12,500 without any tweaks on 3dmark2k1. We just did a fresh install tonight with Win2k.

I know this is an AMD but surely they are not that much faster.

In terms of drivers, the manual suggested to get updated AGP Controller drivers. I couldnt seem to find the updated drivers for my computer. Any suggestions on how to track down the latest drivers? Would that solve my little problem? Thanks.

your score is defenatly too low for your system, although it is difficult to say why. make sure you are not running antivirus software or anything else in the background first off and another thing to worry about is if you got the drivers from your old card compleatly out of your system. there is a good thread on how to do that here. as for how to track down the latest drivers for your agp controler, if there have been updates sence you got it the first thing you need to do is figure out what kind of motherboard chipset you have, the hp model number could help there. if you still have tech suport just bug them about it.

If it's an intel chipset which I'm assuming it is. Don't think HP would use the via or sis chipset. Just go to intel's website get the intel chipset software installation utility and the INF drivers for the chipset. You can get a chipset id utility also that'll tell what chipset you have too. What model HP is it?

32 MB TNT2 M64 Card (Has BEEN replaced with Radeon 9700 PRO)

In terms of mobo manufecturer, its wierd, because the 3DMark 2001 SE is saying its an Asustek mobo model # P4B266LA, while the System Devices in Control Panel is identifying the AGP Controller as Intel. Not sure which AGP Controller driver to download and install. Really appriciate your feedback.

sounds like it uses the i854D Intel chipset.

It probably is an asus board. They make oem boards for various manufacturers.
drivers download the two for 845 chipset.

Want to thank everyone for their input. After many reinstalls and god knows what else i was doing with this computer, the video card seems to be performing well now. The 3DMark score stands at 9800-10200, which i believe is about right for a Radeon 9700 on a P 1.8. I think i can get it even higher because i have a feeling that this HP case isnt ventilated that well as i would like. A lot of HOT air is circulating inside the case. But this Score seems to make more sense. Thanks again for all the input, if anyone has any good ideas about cooling these HP cases, i would appriciate any further feedback. Thanks again.

i am running a 9700 from saphire, i get 13292 in 3dmark2001SE with default settings in 3dmark and speed settings in ATI control panel

are you sure you got rid of all the nVidia drivers? check the registry for strings with "nv" in them. i always reformat and do clean OS installs when i switch between video card brands. driver conflicts can suck up a lot of vid card speed.

i am planning a pretty descent overclock here as soon as i get parts in.

i am running a koolance case, the tall black one
i was running a cheap home-made waterblock made of plexi epoxy'ed to a Cu plate, but i had a very small leek and i got worried. So now im patiently waiting on a koolance CPU-200 P4 cooler, a GPU cooler, and a chipset cooler.

i have run my P4 2.4(533) @ 18x166Mhz FSB for 3Ghz, i could get a post at higher but not stable, 1.7v, max on my IT7.

going to run with a 175Watt pelier, mod coolance to put in faster fans for radiator, vmod the P4 to 1.85v and go for gold

will then overclock radeon9700 to about 375coreMhz GPU, and 375memoryMhz (750 DDR), hopeful with watercooled GPU and additional ram cooling via homebrew adapter plate to interface with GPU coldplate on front, and heatsinks with fan on back side.

i will post my results, my math says this setup should break the magic 15500 mark
