Radeon 9700 3DMark:
Well, it was bound to happen, someone has posted a few Radeon 9700 scores at MadOnion using the 3Dmark 2001 SE result browser. On a P4 3GHz system the 9700 posted a 15,000+ score. I compared it to my 3GHz Ti4600 system to give you an idea of performance differences since the systems are so similar. Have a look:

link to the benchmark

The specs showed final drivers were not used either. Also, Kyle just chimed in that the Nature FPS number seemed to be a bit low compared to what he saw and that the poly count numbers were off as well, so you might not take this to show final boxed performance since this is obviously not a retail card without the launch drivers.

edt.. damnit, too many zeros

Why would a $400 video card bring down the price of the $100 LE? The 9000/Pro might bring the price down 'bout $10-15 or so, but that's about it.

bah...96 fps in Nature...sounds like horsecrap to me...that card will get around 196 fps on a well tweaked system...

I'm not joking...make this thread sticky and check back in mid october when the guys from xtremesystems or vr-zone get the 9700 into their LN2 cooled rigs. 196fps in Nature...

Wow that's fast. I see that the Ti4600 beat out the 9700 on a few benches by quite a bit. I wonder how much faster the card will be when it's released with non-beta drivers. It's still impressive though. How long before a 3dmark 2002 bench comes out featuring dx9 specifications? When is dx9 coming out for consumers from MS?

I haven't heard anything about 3DMark 2002 (probably because I haven't cared to look for any info), but odds are it'll be at least a few months after the DX9 release. Perhaps late winter? Barring any more delays, which unfortunatly seems likely, DX9 should be out around October/November.

what about keeping the ram the same?or am i wrong here?

since the ti4600 has 256 system ram and the 9700 has 512 system ram wouldn't there be an added advantage to the 9700 scores?

please i am not trying to thread crap but would like to see the results on similar setups

thanks for sharing this and the time involved

go ati ;)

I doubt system ram had much hif any difference between the two scores. 3dmark is more of a GPU test than anything else.
