Radeon 9600 Pro - what's the max Oc for this card?

Hi guys!!

I got a Sapphire Radeon 9600 Pro Atlantis which I've been able to OC from 400 to 513 core at stock cooling (I didn't touch the memory since it was rated at 3.3ns so I left it at 303).

My question is, how much more can I push my card, or have I already pushed the limits of the core?

I've also heard of people talking about modding the 9600 pro to a 9600xt - is this even possible?

I'd appreciate your replies.

Thanks in advance!!

I overclocked mine to about your level stable. That's generally the highest limit I've seen with stock cooling. Just try overclocking it more; it should be safe as long as you back off as soon as it starts to artifact or show any sign of problems. It's not possible to mod it to 9600xt. Possible to get the core to xt speeds, 500Mhz, but the memory doesn't go that high either.

I was thinking that it might be possible to flash the bios or something which might allow higher speeds, but the OC was good enough for me I guess..

Thanks again!! :)

From what I understand, the 9600 has 4 pipelines from the GPU to the Memory modules, the 9800 has 8.

So no matter how fast you overclock it, its going to bottleneck.

Thanks guys for your responses. :)

I was actually able to get it up to 526/303 last night and played Halo with all options on at 800x600 and it worked without a hitch - no artifacting, lockups, etc whatsoever. I've got to say that ATI did a nice job with the 9600...

... now if KoTOR would work properly with my card, I'll be a happy camper.

Andrew there is a 1.01 patch for Kotor that fixes all of the 9600 issues. i had many problems on my 9600 until they came out with it on last Tuesday. It's made the game go from extremely frustrating to being a little movie...

Thanks for the heads up Bartokomus :)

I downloaded the patch last night but I still needed to turn off hardware mouse cursor in order to prevent the game from locking up... I wonder if the recently released Cat 3.10 solves this issue...
