You should also take a look at the 5900SE! It should perform quite a bit better than the 9600 XT and definately better than your Ti4600. It cost a few bucks more but Im sure its worth it. For me I am getting the 5950 Ultra for $310 at newegg, its an OEM but so was my 9800 Pro so I have no problem at all with that, I would like to have a nice box in my closet but Im not going to pay $60 more just for a box and some sorry games.

some of those reviews make the 9600xt look really crappy compared to the 9700 pro... like <1/3rd of the speed in some tests.

Is it worthwhile getting a 9600xt, or should I wait and get a 9700/9800pro?

Sorry I was in the shower, but thats a good choice that you made! You will be happy with it I think. Hope everything goes well and you dont get problems like I did. Good luck!

The 9600 Pro 256 is like a hybrid of the non pro and pro versions. While the memory is that of the Non pro, the core is clocked at Pro speeds. Avoid it if you can, but i dont have any beef with it. It plays all my games at max settings w/16xaf flawlessly, or at least smoothly. I'd jump at the chance for an upgrade to a better card though.

Offer it to me for $100 and I'll buy it and you can upgrade 😉

On a more serious note, would you recommend doing a clean install of windows xp when I get the new card (seeing as I'm going to put it in this pc) or won't it bother windows to swap from nvidia to ati?

Reinstalling won't be a problem... this pc really needs it lol

I would highly recommend formatting! I do it everytime I install a new piece of hardware lol. Ive reformated at least 5 times this year already lol. Go for it, it would only help to do so.

You'd be better off saving a few bucks & get a regular 5900XT as the SE is eVGA's version of the XT clocked a measly 10MHz faster.

Curto, As for formatting your PC if it really needs it go for it, otherwise it should be fine to uninstall the old nVidia drivers & just install the ATI ones.

Ya whichever one works I wasnt sure which was the cheaper one but the SE and XT are pretty much exactly the same.
