The 9600 Pro 256 is like a hybrid of the non pro and pro versions. While the memory is that of the Non pro, the core is clocked at Pro speeds. Avoid it if you can, but i dont have any beef with it. It plays all my games at max settings w/16xaf flawlessly, or at least smoothly. I'd jump at the chance for an upgrade to a better card though.

You should also take a look at the 5900SE! It should perform quite a bit better than the 9600 XT and definately better than your Ti4600. It cost a few bucks more but Im sure its worth it. For me I am getting the 5950 Ultra for $310 at newegg, its an OEM but so was my 9800 Pro so I have no problem at all with that, I would like to have a nice box in my closet but Im not going to pay $60 more just for a box and some sorry games.

You'd be better off saving a few bucks & get a regular 5900XT as the SE is eVGA's version of the XT clocked a measly 10MHz faster.
Curto, As for formatting your PC if it really needs it go for it, otherwise it should be fine to uninstall the old nVidia drivers & just install the ATI ones.
