The fan on my 9600Pro keeps dying.. I've sent it back to ati 3 times already and gotten "new fans" but my warranty is now over..

My current solution is to use rubber bands over the card to attatch a delta 7200rpm 60mm to the card (old fan lying around).

I will upgrade that to a Ys tech 80mm in a week when it arrives.

My question is... Will my rubber bands melt and damage my card? Will anything else go wrong?

My case temp is usually 28C and I dont think any melting will occour but I want to make absolutely sure

If you've had it sent back 3x and had fans still die, I'd raise hell after the first repeated failure.

Demand a new card. Your previous ones will be on record, and any store worth their salt will take it back.

Can you oil the fan? On my 9100 (fan ?looks? about the same a 9600pro fan) on the underside is a round sticker that can be (carefully) peeled back to expose the bearing, put a drop or 2 of motor oil in there.

THat solution is fine. It won't come close to producing enough heat to melt a rubber band.

You might consider an aftermarket VGA cooler like one of these ...
