here in atlantic canada, the ti 4200 128 MB is still twice as much money as the Radeon 9100 (8500 LE) 128 MB...I am just wondering why the price is so high...locally here, a ti 4200 is $190 CDN, while a Radeon 9100 is $101.99........

in some benchmarks the 9100 can beat the ti 4200 if I remember correctly

I would like to put ti 4200's in budget gaming systems, but the Radeon 9100 is too hard to pass up for the price and comparison to the 4200

While I agree that the 4200 is a faster card but in budget gaming system I dont think the difference is worth 90$

In a budget gaming system the 9100 would be the better choice , IMO .

You might look at the FX5200...probably pretty competitive with the 9100...maybe better. Just be sure to get the 128 bit memory.

the FX5200 id class down with the geforce 4 mx series...

id go with a 9500 pro, 9600 pro, Ti4200, or FX5600 for a budget GAMING system. At least youll be able to play doom 3 and HL2 at some reasonable graphics settings.

I wouldnt get a Ti4200 if you are planning on playing any next gen games before your next upgrade. I think you may be better off lookin around the FS/T board for a good deal...

EDIT: Also, if you are interested, I am putting up a Radeon 9500 on ebay w/ a buy now for $135 US.

A Ti4200 will play all the next gen games fine, sans the new DX9 features. But that will probably be a good thing since i'm sure enabling DX9 features will slow anything slower than a 9700+ or 5800+ to a crawl.

There's nothing wrong with a DX 8.1 card. It will run future games without DX9 features but they will look like today's games which is pretty good. And i'm sure without DX9 features enabled games will run smooth. Anyway looking over the DX9 features list there's nothing in there that looks to impressive.

I played Star Wars Galaxies for a month on my ti4200 at 1280x1024. That graphics and animation were both very impressive and thats looking at it with a DX 8.1 card. I don't think there are any games using DX9 features out yet.

I have a Sapphire Radeon 128MB 8500LE flashed to 9100 and I was very impressed with it indeed - more so than my Ti4200 which overclocks to Ti4600 speeds.

Go for the Radeon if you ask me :)

One thing to consider is whether you're spending too much on the CPU + RAM for a budget system. If the system isn't going to be overclocked, an XP 2200+ and PC2100 instead of an XP2500+ and PC2700 could let you spend more on viideo.

Even a "slow" XP 2000+ with a 9600 or ti4200 would beat an XP 2500+ with a 9100 in many games. The tradeoff is better performance now but less of an upgrade path later since an XP 2000+ probably isn't fast enough to push next year's $200 USD card to its limits.

I got my ATI Radeon 9600PRO from Atic for $210. What i actually did was order it from VibeComputers which is based in Vancouver, but price match Atic's price. The 9600 is great.

The Cheapest ti4200 video card that I can find is from NCIX.com...and its a Soltek ti4200 128MB video for $175 plus tx/shipping....by the time its here it would be the same cost as the Asus here for $190 easily (canadian prices)

The Radeon 8500LE/9100 can be found at some places under $100.....I don't think the Ti4200 is worth the money, besides, with either card your going to upgrade within a year anyways....and when I say budget..I mean something for casual gamers who also want DVD playback.....these people play games at like 800*600....besides, a Radeon 9100 will play a lot of games at high settings, or at least medium with a descent PC

I'm going to stick with the 9100...

how did you flash yours? I have a test PC that has a 64MB Sapphire version of the 8500 LE and is there any advantage to flashing it to a 9100?

I personally dont like the FX5200.....Id rather go with a ti4200 or a Radeon 9100

I consider a FX5200 to be a Geforce 4 MX kind of card

I'd just like to also point out, I feel the DVD playback is best on the Radeon
