Radeon 8500 or GeForce 3 ti200? Which one should i get?

Both are about the same price. I would like the Radeon but I am worried about the driver situation it is in. Will there be new drivers out by Xmas to solve the problems? Is there any problems with it? Heard about Refresh rates and Frame rates being locked at 60 hertz and 60 fps. Also it there an instbilty problem with the Radeon?

thx

I would go with the Radeon. It is faster than the ti 200. Also I'm not saying their drivers are perfect but their driver situation is a little bit overblown. I know a lot of gamers who are happy with their 8500.

8500. I am perfectly happy with mine and there are no driver problems... (i am using the original installation CD drivers), if I ever run into any I'm sure there's already a fix on ATI's website.

Like jhill said, the driver issue is overblown. Get the Radeon, who knows maybe one day it will be better than the Ti500.

8500 I only had problems with 60Hz refresh rates in 2d windows(with my radeon 64ddr) but powerstrip fixed that 😛

gef...hehe..just kidding...i'd say radeon !

its just the more modern card with more features...why would you want to limit yourself ? 😉

I am another happy 8500 owner since the first day the 8500 hit the streets for sale. Unreal Tounament looks so much better in GL with disc 2 textures than the GF 3 ever did with the 21.83 drivers in Win XP. RTCW is running smooth as butter with all the eye candy @1280x1024 and my gaming box is not a screamer . All you Nvidia Fanboys can trash talk the 8500 all you want but I am happy with my 8500 purchase.

i got a nvidia instead of a radeon b/c the dvi output looked worse on the 8500 than the gf3. i wonder if that was a hardware or driver issue.

Raincity I cann't get UT to run very well in OGL with WinMe what settings do you use?I have the latest drivers and Dx8.1.😕

I frankly don't know the performance diff between the two cards in their stock forms. I just wanted to mention that I was able to overclock my Visiontek Ti 200 (175/400) to Ti 500 levels (240/500) with perfect stability and no artifacts on stock cooling. I've heard of others with the same success on their Visiontek cards. Of course, I wasn't brave enough to leave it there and your mileage may vary.

IM running 3X Smoothvision with texture compression in UT. The 3286 driver set broke the Loki and UT Gl renderer. I just imported the atiopglxxx.dll from the 7199 set and placed it in the UT system folder to fix the issue until ATI fixes it in another driver release.

What about the OEM version of the Radeon 8500 vs. the GF 3 Ti200?? Here in Canada, the two of them are around the same price...btw, it's used primarily for wwiionline, and Nascar Racing 4....

Oh yeah, I really don't plan on overclocking whichever one I do decide on getting...at least not at this time...

Thanks....

Dave

In this case I would pick the 8500 because compared to the ti200 the 8500 is very fast. Now if the 8500 was compared to the ti500 I would go with the Geforce 3 Ti500.
