My 64MB Radeon 8500 only gives 6200 3dMarks in 3dMark2001 SE. I've tried overclocking to 290/290 and it makes little difference. Any ideas? I've played with the AGP Apature. It made little difference also.

Treemonkey,
Make sure you don't have FSAA or ANSIO filtering on. That will drop your score. For reference, my other rig:

Shuttle AK31A KT266a
AMD Athlon (non XP) 1.33@1.466 (11 x 133)
ATI 8500LE 128mb (275/275)
256mb Crucial PC2100

scores 7800 in 3dmark2001se. So you score is low. Also, do you have an eom Radeon or retail? The eom revisions are generally clocked lower. Download powerstrip to check. Hope this helps.

Did you install the VIA 4-in-1 drivers?

If not, grab the latest revision of them here.

Good luck and enjoy the Radeon!

Thanks for the replies. I've got the new 4in1s and I've turned off filtering. I think there's something else wrong because when I turned all the options in the Catalyst D3D menu to "Performance" my score went down to 5800. Ouch. And yes, this is the retail card. Its default is 275/275. It's been a while since the last format c:....

Check your BIOS settings. I went through the same thing over the weekend. My score was 6405 w/8500 128MB. I looked in my BIOS and my AGP aperture was 32MB and my external (L2) cache was disabled. After the changes my score went up to 9082.

Forgot system specs:
MSI KT7 266 Pro2 RU
1700+ @1617MHZ
512MB
Radeon 8500 128MB

Make sure your vsync isn't set to "Always ON" or something like that.

Hmm...I get 9300 with my radeon le at default 249.8/249.8...no ocing yet...I don't think it could take it....

That is using 3dmark2k1...What is SE and will it do anything different then the non-SE????

Eventhough I am using 1.6@2.66ghz I noticed it really stopped scaling with cpu power...I run 333mhz ddr as well...

I get 9555 (3DMark2001 SE) on my Radeon 8500 128MB (retail, not LE version), overclocked to 290/300.
WinXP Pro, VIA 4.40 4-in-1's, latest ATI Catalyst drivers, 3DRage overclocking util.
Default test settings (FSAA & AF off, 1024x768)

Gigabyte 7VRXP motherboard
Athlon XP 2000+ (FSB @ 136 x 12.5 = 1700MHz)
512MB PC2700 RAM

Even Jedi Knight II is smooth as silk at 1280x1024 @ 32bit with 4x AF turned ON.

Paid $146 for this card. I'm loving it.

Correction...
9737 @ 301/301 overclock and a bump in FSB to 140MHz...

Nice!

On a quest for 10K!

i haven't read the replies so sorry if im just repeating what's already being said but there's a couple things you should look out for:

are you using 3dmark2001 or 2001SE ? the SE changes scores somewhat...
are ya using AA or anistropic texture filtering?
what resoultion are ya using? and colour depth?

also try tweaking your rig a lil (ram settings), make sure your card is running at AGP4x... just a couple suggestions, oh and above all:

WHAT DRIVERS ARE YOU USING?

either get the latest Catalysts or get Omega and Plutonium's latest tweaked set (very stable and fast)... it can be found here!

hope this helps! :)
