Radeon 8500 insanity... screen gets trashed

Installed my Rad8500 two nights ago and used it for only a few hours (at 1280x1040 on a Mitsubishi 2040u).

Twice it's gone "insane": the expected images are OR'd with a banded pattern so that half the image is masked out. The banded pattern alternates row to row: about 1/2" is "whited-out" (although it's not really "white"), then the next 1/2" is undistorted. On the next line the same appears but it's shifted 1/2" so it's clear below a bar. The it shifts again on the next row. First time, I thought it was a defect in the recover-from-screen-blamking s/w, but I couldn't reproduce it.

Guessing, I'd say the digital-to-analogue convertor is miss-loading every-other 64 bits as solid one's, alternatng phase from row to row.

It doesn't seem to be overheating as it fixes itself on a reboot. I wasn't able to read the screen well enough the first time to try changing screen res' to see if that pops it back.

If anyone has any experience with this, I'd love to avoid sending the board back!!! Meanwhile, I'll download newer drivers, but... it seems like h/w to me.

Thanks!

Are you overclocking at all, this tends to happen when ram is higher then what it needs to be, the other option that I can think of is you may have a bad card.

Try unistallin the drivers then reinstalling regular ati drivers, no betas, then see if this still happens.
