I have a new Radeon 8500 AIW card running with my Intel mobo and P4 (2.66).

I'm encountering a very annoying problem. All of a sudden, my screen starts showing words broken down into granules. Everything else (picture, icons etc.) is okay. However, the works are screwed up ... all of them. My best guess is that it is Japanese ... but it's hard to make out!

I have updated my Radeon Drivers three time from ATI web-site .... but no use. It doesn't happen always ... only once in like 2-3 days. Then I restart my PC and everything becomes okay .... Please Help!

No I'm not sure .... it can be anything from drivers to my settings or anything .... can you brainstorm on what it can be?

I'm sorry ... I don't think virus is a right word. It seems to be something else affecting my computer like a virus .. maybe some settings or incompatibilities.

I ran the latest version of Norton Antivirus ... did not find anything ... except 1 virus in Nero somewhere .... repaired it ... but did not help in this letters corruption .....:(

The words screw up everywhere and anytime. However, the stuff inside the internet browser is okay.

But like start-up menu text, desktop icon text, everything in menu bars or dialogue boxes, internet browser menu bars, word or notepad documents ... etc. is screwed up. This images are absolutely okay!

1. How much RAM?
2. Typically, what applications (and # of IE windows) are running when this happens?

It sounds like you have a (lack of) memory problem, or one of the apps you're running has a memory leak. When this happens again, see if closing various apps or browser windows helps.

Not many applications are running .... maybe the ATI AIW TV is on ... I have 512MB PC2700 RAM (Crucial) ... I'm planning to get some more though.

So do you think decreasing hardware acceleration does not contribute much to reducing this problem? Secondly, is there any loss from decreasing hardware acceleration?

Well, with 512MB RAM you should be okay... I'm stumped. Set the hardware accelaration back to normal, and when/if the problem occurs again, do a ctrl+alt+del and list the apps running.

BTW, what's your OS? The last time I had to play with hardware accelaration was when Win98 first came out and my vid card had a Win95 driver.

My Operating st=ystem is XP professional. And I have observed that even after I decreased my hardware acceleration, I encountered this problem once more (but just once ... and a bit lesser words were corrupted this time!). I'll set back the hardware acceleration to normal, and follow your advice. But I remember, even when I close all the running programs, the corruption is not corrected until I restart my computer! I'm so shocked ... I made my computer from scratch ... without any problem except this ... this is really bugging me. Please help!!

...I recommend you post on the forums at rage3d.com -- and ATI vid card site.

Include the following info in you post there:

Motherboard
RAM
OS
Driver version

Good luck!
