Radeon 8330 vs Intel HD 4400

Hey, I'm torn between these two, but i don't know if they meet my needs.

I just want to be able to watch 1080i HD TV with it. Also be able to view my movie/tv show collection that is mostly 720P.

I also watch Twitch, and MLG etc, so would like to be able to watch this streams smoothly. Would either of these PC's get that done?

Its basicly compating a laptop CPU with a netbook CPU.

HD4400 is better.

The i3 is also significantly faster CPU wise in case you need CPU offloading for whatever codec or filters.

Should be plenty for your streams.

Can you be more specific as to the refresh issues you are referring? I think either of the above systems should do fine for what you've described although the intel cpu is a better one overall. Did you want the projector that comes with the intel system? If not, there may be better options out there.

Oh no I could care less about the projector. Just looking for small and cheap. The refresh issues was something about like the refresh rate of the onboard video and not working correctly with TV's? Something like sandybridge had the issue and it was supposed to be fixed with Ivybridge but wasn't. I hope it's fixed by now, and I wish I could be more specific 🙁

What's your budget. I just noticed the intel system comes with a 4GB stick of RAM and a 64 GB SSD. Will you need a bigger hard drive or will your tv/movie collection be streamed from a different computer?

Thanks for the concern hitman, but I'm okay. This box isn't gonna be for recording. I have a nas which has all my media, and I won't be recording any TV on this box. Just watching TV, and the occasional Twitch/MLG stream. 🙂

A4-5000/HD 8330 is absolutely fine for movies (I have one), it's based on GCN 1.1 and thus supports UVD 4 engine, but visually worse in everything else. The price clearly reflects that. The idle power consumption of my Kabini box is around 15w. Full HD movie playback about 20w. In games, never seen above 32w on my k-watt meter. I'd get the faster Haswell-based computer though, as it is much better for web browsing; Kabini just doesn't feel as snappy. They both suck in graphics, though. Don't expect any serious gaming on them (BF3/4 are not playable even on low settings, but BF2 is fine). The AMD solution might be better driver-wise (versus Intel) with the older games, but I haven't bothered to check that one yet. Haven't had any driver issues with my HD 4600 in the other box yet (except with Windows XP in the past with a few apps).

In that case the, I'd go with the intel box you listed if you already haven't picked it up. That price would be hard to beat with the free memory and hard drive.
