It doesn't look good power and heat wise.

AMD's design alternate as update the revision of these cards can carry GHz Edition was developed with the phrase GPUs withMight be clocked at 1 GHz core frequency is expressed. On the other hand, the Radeon HD 7970 models with customized design, came to the stage under the same etkinkik. Officially together doğrulanmamakla Asus Matrix series Radeon HD 7970 model is claimed to exhibit at Computex 2012 fair.

I don't think its bad. Dual 7970s at 849$ and 1ghz? That site is stating that clockspeeds will be 1GHz, Thats not bad at all, as long as the fan isn't horrible like the 6990 fan was. Also these cards are much better candidates for water cooling than the GK104, because they're not voltage locked like every 690. Its almost near pointless to water cool a reference 680. No wait it is pointless except for eliminating noise.

The 7990 sounds pretty good based on the info dominhaber has, I don't care what anyone says - I was expecting the 7990 to be cut down with lower clock speeds....if this is true, its not cut down at all - it could be a viable contender.

If it is launched at 1GHz, and is priced at less than $1000, it'll be the the last word in enthusiast-tier graphics hardware.
The people who buy these dual-GPU monsters usually don't care that much about power consumption, anyway, so IMO, it'll be a more acceptable competitor to the 690 than the 7970 was to the 680.

However, if they launch it with less than 7970 clocks, it probably won't be able to compete with the 690 in anything but price and availability.

In high resolution, mutli-monitor gaming it will end up beating the 690 in many games. Notice how at 1920x1080 the 670 beats the 7970, but at absurdly high eyefinity resolutions the 7970 sometimes beats even the 680? The superior memory bandwidth available thanks to a 384-bit bus will ensure the 7990 will be the multimonitor single card king, at least when you consider it's $150 cheaper.

a stock 670 does not normally beat a 7970 at 1920x1080. it matches it overall as it wins some and loses some. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_670/28.html

a 1ghz 7990 should easily beat the gtx690 overall at 2560 or higher.

Yeah, they are more equal. But the higher the res, the more the 7970 pulls ahead of the 670 and towards (and sometimes ahead) of the 680. The 7990 should do the same relative to the 690. Extra bandwidth also really helps with a cards longevity since as time goes on, games use more and more memory (on average). Perhaps worth noting if you wanna keep your $1000 card for a long time.

I read the article and I saw no references at all to AMD launching HD7990 or its price.

It says: "Partners working on the model of AMD's Radeon HD 7970 X2".

Also, there is no evidence that the card will debut at Computex. Rumours suggest that it may be presented during Computex 2012, but so far no detailed information has surfaced. We could see some manufacturers such as PowerColor do a special HD7970 X2 card (like they did with the 6870 X2) but I am not seeing any info that a 1Ghz HD7990 is launching any time soon.

If that's the case, things must be really weird between AMD and its partners. For partners to launch a dual GPU card before AMD in this manner is unheard of.

690 is slower than 680 SLI, 690 is closer to 670 SLI or btw 670 SLI and 680 SLI.

7990 will be nearly 10% faster than 7970 CF.

7990 > 690. PERIOD Overall, but individual victory depends on the game.

7990 compete/beat 680 SLI which is faster than 690.

And at $850 it is a no brainer, if you can afford it and if you don't mind multi GPU.

Sadly, 690 is like $1500+ in India, this will probably be around $1300-1400 as well. Way too expensive!

The interesting question will be:
Will people be blinded by fps alone or will they take AFR woes into account? Were are these advanced frame time measurements? It's about time...

Based on what? Poster bias?

No... based on 7970 power and heat numbers. It's simple math. GTX 690 has a power target of 263W, AMD isn't magically going to figure out a way to take 200W out of the equation.

Better binned GPUs have lower leakage. It may have higher power consumption than the GTX 690 but you have to remember that the process has matured quite a bit from launch. I don't understand why the HD7970 is getting the GTX 480 status, it only uses around 30w more on average. That chart above is based on one game, which the GTX 680 performs poorly on, go figure.

all it needs is a water block and it could easily compete with the 690 if it stayed under $1000

Indeed; and if it overclocks well like past Tahiti cores, along with all that VRAM, it could be a great card for multi-display setups.

Yea, I don't get it either. I've seen him do this in other threads too. In the system he linked, the 7970 uses a whopping 8% more power than the GTX680 system.

Somehow he tries to equate that to the 32% more power the GTX480 system uses over the 5870 system below. If you are to believe AMD, they claim that the process has matured and now higher clocks at lower power consumption are possible.

I don't think performance is going to be an issue for this card. I don't think heat or power use will either. But going by the number of Crossfire driver problem threads I've seen, I'm not sure I would be willing to take the leap of faith this card would require. I had two 5870's in Crossfire, I got into it after the drivers were mature and had nothing but a great experience with it. I don't think I would attemp two Radeon 7xxx GPU's in Crossfire as the drivers are today, though.

If I see that AMD's card has high power consumption on a benchmark that its actually outperforming the 680 on, I see a null point.
