Radeon 7950 issue

The card I have is a Sapphire OC 7950 and I have one issue right now. Every time I wake it from sleep mode, I get a display driver stops responding. It goes away after a few crashes. It happens when I put it back into stock speed as well. Otherwise after a few display drivers not responding crashes it goes back to normal.

I heard there have been issues with the 7970 in which when they try to wake it up they get a black screen with their cursor on it. While it might not be the same issue it seems odd it happens when you go wake up the computer when its in standby or sleep mode.

Anyone else having that issue?

I used to have a similar issue with my HD 6870 where it would not wake from sleep a ways back. I cannot remember though if it was a driver update that fixed my problem or me messing with my windows power profile. Wish I could remember to assist you further.

sleep mode... why not just turn off feature, and turn off your pc when your not useing it?

I know thats not the same as haveing sleep funktion work, but it beats haveing the issues.
Sleepmode vs turning pc off when your asleep/turning it back on when you need it = meh.

Out of curiosity are you useing MSI afterburner software? seems like alot of people with this issue has/had MSI afterburner installed.

From what i gather from troubleshooting forums, its software vcore controls that cause these issues. Try disabling trixx and see if it helps?

Will do when i put my computer to sleep. Going to give that a shot. So should I just use overdrive from now on till this issue is fixed?

I've been reading this forum for a while but decided to sign up so I could chime in here. I have the same exact card as you and am having pretty much the same problem, except mine is locking up just when my monitor powers off after inactivity. Not sleep mode.

My system is a completely new build that I finished when I got the 7950 so it's a fresh install of everything and I haven't even attempted to OC yet or install any OC/monitoring utilities like trixx or afterburner. So for now I set things so that my monitor never goes off and I'm really hoping that a driver update will fix this.

I haven't tried it yet but the following post on another forum might provide a possible band-aid solution:
