Ehh it's SLIGHTLY faster than a 6970, which people were able to buy for $300 not too long ago. To pay $50 more dollars for such a marginal increase doesn't seem like much. To be honest, this card priced at $250-$275 would of been very competitive.

It's not consistent, that is what I see for sure. In some games it's on par with a GTX 570 where the 6970 was behind, in others it's faster than a GTX 580 and in some games it's a hair faster than the 7950 ?!

This is based on anand's review. $300 would of been a very good price. Looking on the current numbers, a factory OC card with 100mhz more=GTX 580, which would be a good way to market the card.

Computerbase.de's roundup, 96% of the GTX 580 with more overclocking headroom for $350 is not exactly bad. $300 would be amazing though.

And lol @ Crysis 2 results, obviously drivers have improved it a huge amount, beating the older release driver 7970:

And a good 20% OC with great scaling, low power consumption/heat even under OC.. $350 makes this card IMO just right. Im eagerly awaiting for gk104 and see how it all stacks up, grabbing whichever gives the best perf/$ and perf/w. Good times.

Once kepler releases and AMD drops the prices of these cards drastically people will change their tune.

On the bright side anyone looking to supplement their gtx580 with a second should likely see a price drop soon if nvidia is sane.

Also, was I hallucinating, or was the 7870 trading blows with the gtx580 and consuming like 100-175w less power? 28nm is bringing some amazing things for people who aren't pessimists like most of the posters here.

Once kepler releases and AMD drops the prices of these cards drastically people will change their tune.

Not about being a pessimist. I picked up a 6950 for $200. This was two weeks ago. I had been waffling for a while since I knew for sure I was going to get a new monitor soon but didn't know if I should wait for these cards. At least now I know I was making a good decision in jumping on the deal, the suspense was killing me. :whiste:

Monitor ETA in 7 hours... I'm going to bed.

I see it as amazing, as based on specs i was expecting around 6970 performance, but its clearly a decent gap faster and especially in newer dx11 games. And yes, it using ~110W less than a gtx580.. even when OC the power goes up by 20W or so, amazing stuff.

Have to point out, 20% OC on stock volts is excellent.

7870 may be the card I go for to replace my 2.5yr old 5850. I'd certianly like to see how kepler stacks up, but if there isnt any solid info in the next few weeks i will probably pull the trigger on this card. I would like a bit more of a performance upgrade but the power/performance ratio looks good.

If only the 7xxx series were $50 cheaper across the board they would look like a much better value, still 7870 seems like a good part

wait for a sale or rebate bringing the 7870 down closer to 300 and I think it will be a good deal. I don't think the card is very good in the $350 range.

I am pretty happy with where the card is. Its performance is faster than the 6970 (I was thinking it was going to fall slightly below this) and it consumes hardly any power for the performance it offers. I have not seen a performance per watt chart, but I am thinking th the 7870 may just be at the top.

Sure we would all like lower prices, but its going to be quite a while before that happens as I highly doubt nVidia will be able to undercut AMD by much, if anything at all.

As predicted, the 7870 and 7850 ended up being slightly faster than the 6950 and 6970. The 7870 is also clocked exactly at 1GHz. Where are the naysayers?

As far as pricing goes, for now people need to stop whining. The 6970 had a price of $350, and this is faster and consumes less power while having more overclocking headroom and better clock scaling. Compared to the GTX 570, it consumes a ton less power and has the same price/performance. If you want better pricing, wait for when GK104 is launched. Then you'll see the 7870 lowered at the minimum to $300 and the 7850 to $230. Give it some time...

Also, the HD 7870 is way too close to the HD 7950 for AMD to consider making an HD 7890. Guess that card is officially dead. Now if only there were a 1.5GB version of the 7950 for $350 or less in a month.

Looks like a good card. With that said I think AMD could have done one of two things to make consumers a bit happier.
1. Add 100mhz to the core speed of the 7870, 7950, and 7970.
or
2. Knock about $30 off the prices of the same three cards.

Yes, the 7850 sucks because you got a special deal which brought down the price $30-40 on a 6950... right.

Hey, I got my current card nine months ago for $160 and it has GTX 470 performance. Guess I got the best deal and I'll go whine about every video card on the planet having crappy price/performance.
