radeon 7500 AGP in mobo w/ AGP 1x/2x?

I have an abit bx6-v2 motherboard. The manual states that it "...supports AGP 1x and 2x mode (Sideband) 3.3V device".

The ATI site says the 7500 is an AGP 2x/4x device. Should this card work in this motherboard?

I can get a display, and usually it'll boot up into windows, but after a while (could be a minute, could be 5 minutes), the system will hang and I need to power off to restart.

It'll even reboot if I stop boot in the BIOS setup menu... just let it sit there a while, maybe switch through the BIOS screens, and it'll eventually hang.

I've also tried a radeon 7500 PCI in this system, but it won't even POST - I get the bios beep code for "video problems" with the PCI version.

R7500 is backward compatible to 2x AGP, no problem there. However the card's power consumption might be too much, either for your power supply unit, or (much less likely) for the board.

I think Ati boards are 1.5v on the AGP. At least thats what my Epox 8KHA+ reports with an Ati 7500 in the slot.

I briefly used my 8500-128 in my BX6R2 with no side effects and on my P3V4X with no problems either.

hmm... I'm beginning to wonder if this is a power issue... is there an easy way to check that (probably off topic for this forum)? I could try just starting up with hard drives, CD, internal zip 100 reader all disconnected, and come into BIOS screens... let it sit for a while and see if it resets or not.

ATi boards are Universal AGP, doing 1.5V signalling when in a 4x capable mainboard, and 3.3V signalling when in an old 1x/2x board.
