I just bought a new sony bravia 60" lcd that runs at 1080p and has a refresh rate of 120 hz but I cant use either one. It wont let me run any game past 720p or of higher then 60 hz refresh rate on the desktop why is this happening? Please help!

I'm also running an hdmi cord for hookup but I also tried dvi to hdmi hookup with no luck.

System
Windows XP 32bit
Intel i7 950
4 gigs ddr3
Diamon radeon 6950
750 PSU Coolermaster

How long is the HDMI cable? Is it HDMI 1.3 compliant?

I run 1080P just fine on a Radeon 4890 in Windows 7 - 64bit.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the Sony BRAVIA listed at 120Hz is a true 120Hz. I believe it is just a 60Hz with their "motionflow." So the computer is only going to recognize it as a 60Hz. This is of course unless you got the KDL-60NX810.

As for the 1080p part. You should definitely be able to get 1080p60Hz with all HDMI cables, including 1.0. I'm not as familiar with the amd control center, but does it list the name of your TV correctly in it? Or does it just mention a generic LCD is connected?

To Patmage it does show in the control center that its running a sony tv so it is registering. Though in the windows display settings its only showing a plug in play monitor don't know if that matters or not. The picture and all looks really good I just cant get it do go any higher in resolution so frustrating. When I had my previous setup which was a samsung hdtv and 8800 gt I was able to do 1080p with all games on a dvi to hdmi hookup.

No TV is true 120hz, leave it at 60hz

Whichever HDMI plug you use, make sure you go into your Source List settings (on TV) and set that HDMI # to PC!!!

Not sure but thought I'd ask.

Was the 6950 the video card you used when installing windows?

If not did you remove the nvidia drivers and then use a driver sweeping program?

Thats actually a good question, the truth is I did not cause I actually have 8 gigs of ram and I plan on buying windows 7 64 bit soon in order to utilize all that ram so I have not done a full reinstall. Do you have any good programs I should use in order to sweep the old files so I can do a complete reinstall of the drivers.

I think alot of people use this one http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1655

Just go to add and remove programs and look for nvidia's and remove it. Then use the program above to remove the leftover nvidia stuff. Might wanna consider just removing the AMD drivers and sweeping while your at it. Then just load the current drivers and see if it helps.
