Just getting a thread up for this. Navi 24 will ride... Q1 2022... ish.

I fugure the 6500XT lands ~5500XT territory for ~$200.

It looks like it's just the one card at the moment, though. With that... umm... generous purchase limit, it's almost like they're expecting customers to buy them in bulk for eBay scalping.
I see 3 at 270, one at 280 and 1 for 300.
Was hoping to snag one of the $199 ones, but that chance has passed it seems.

I'm still hoping. Those cards (the RX 6500 XT) are SO crippled, that I refuse to pay more than $250 for them, just out of principle. Preferably one of the $199 ones.

I'm already sitting on a "fat stack" of RX 6600 and XT cards (currently up to 11 of them in total*), so the RX 6500 XT doesn't do much for me, except at an "extreme budget" price.

(*) Yeah, yeah, yeah, didn't "steal" them from gamers, just bought them off of Newegg for as much of a non-scalper price that I could.

If you want a media GPU i would recomend to wait for the Intel GPUs, the DG1 is an awesome media GPU, i mean that thing uses about the same power than the J4105 IGP for media decode, if i could add it to my J4105 pc i would buy one. But i cant. But maybe a 96EU DG2? I still kinda hoping to one day see a bios for the DG1s, the rom chip its there.

Already have an Athlon 200GE in one, and my second media PC uses a Ryzen 3600/GT1650. So I'm good for now.

I've been thinking about getting a T400 for the second, because I could really use that 1650 for something else tough. Prices for the T400 are still reasonable. Not cheap, but reasonable.

I'm sorely tempted to pick up one of those Intel cards. For novelty value* if nothing else, and as you say the smaller ones should make excellent HTPC cards. You can say a lot about Intel IGPs, but their media capabilities are excellent.

A reminder that low end cards will not be used like if they were top end cards by the actual gamers.
I will tell you how wildly unpopular the 6500xt is. I setup a notification for the ASUS Dual AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT OC Edition and got it less than an hour ago. By the time I clicked on it, it was already gone.

Good news! The below product is now back in stock as of 01/27/2022 and we are sending you this notification as per your request. If you are still interested in purchasing this product, please use the “Add To Cart” button below to start the checkout process. We recommend completing your purchase right away. We do not guarantee price or availability for the below item.

I think most of us would consider $400 wildly overpriced as well. Comparing it to something even more ridiculous doesn't make $400 any better. I wouldn't be surprised if Newegg puts those products there just to make the $400 seem like some kind of deal because people will fall for that kind of manipulation quite easily.

People, please stop comparing 6500 XT and 3050. Both are cards for different market segments. 6500 XT is based on a tiny 107 mm² chip. 3050 is based on a much larger chip with 276 mm². It's actually just a crippled 3060. Of course Nvidia and their AIBs can't offer 3050 close to the price of 6500 XT. Nvidia's MSRPs are completely fake. Even AMD's 6600 series has a smaller chip with 237 mm². I don't see much sense for 3050 at the moment. Here in Germany it starts at 499 EUR. You better get an RX 6600 for that money. RX 6500 XT is much less expensive, almost half the price, starting at 279 EUR.

Not true, I saw at least two people that got 3050 card in this forum, at or near base MSRP ($250). It's not fake. It's obviously going to be higher demand, and scooped up and scalped in this market, so you need to get very luck to get a card near the base MSRP.

You should assume those were just MSRP specials so they claim it was available at MSRP. You won't see them again.

I would pay max $150 for the 6500 XT, but with the 3050 sporting 8GB, I'm not sure why I would want the 6500 XT, other than to experience the AMD side of things. 6500 XT looks like the Geforce 710 of the future. The market will be flooded with them, if AMD produces enough of them.

For many users, it is likely to be the only non-used option available. In comparison to nothing or an iGPU, it is pretty good.

Even when the market recovers, the rx6500xt is likely to be the only new option available under $300 for quite some time to come.

For now. Nvidia has reduced specs enough that they can eventually replace the GA106 used with the smaller GA107 die. They're just selling off GA106 rejects now.

GA107 should be significantly larger vs NAVI 24 (107mm2). I estimate GA107 closer to 170-200mm2 range.

Two years ago RX 6500XT would be the replacement of RX550/560 (100-130mm2 range) and its performance would be between GT1030 replacement and RTX 3050.

RTX3050 would be the GTX1650/ti replacement at 170-200mm2 range.

But even today the two cards are not in the same street price and performance segment.

There is a huge gap between NAVI 23 (237mm2) RX6600/XT and NAVI 24 (107mm2) RX 6500XT. AMD should have made another die in between the two that could directly compete against GA107.

Indeed.

I don't think anyone would have minded as much if these chips were called 6300/6400 instead. With a 1536SP/80TMU/48ROP/24RT/24MB chip for the midrange 6500(XT). Maybe in a more normal world.

What would be nice to know is not so much actual die sizes (or transistor count which might be more accurate between TSMC 7nm and Samsung 8nm) but die costs: we all asume that Samsung gave Nvidia a sweetheart deal for 8nm but by how much?

Still the full GA106 is 12 billion transistor according to TPU (GA107 just has that down as "Unknown", ditto die size), while Navi 24 is 5.5 billion. Now RTX 3050 is cutdown and should eventually really be on GA107, but shader unit wise TPU has:
GA107 = 3,072 shaders
GA106 = 3,840 shaders
Obvioulsy there are other cuts, but that implies GA107 is around 80% of GA106.
Navi 24 = 1,024 shaders
Navi 23 = 2,048 shaders.
So by that Navi 24 is pretty much half a Navi 23.
So yes, like you said, there really should be a chip in between. Navi 24 really looks like it would compete with a GA108 if Nvidia ever make that.

Pretty sure AMD didn't plan for a chip between N23 and N24 so no wonder they ran the 6500 XT at nearly 3GHz (and a crazy 100W). If they cared, the should release a 8GB Navi 24 card but they'd first have to source some 4GB GDDR6 chips (if they even exist), or reduce the price.

They're already short on wafers as is and making another set of masks for a separate die likely isn't worth the cost.
