Radeon 5870 376.04 or 5850 284.26 +FS +no tax in CA at Tiger Direct after Bing Cashback
First use the term 'laptop' in bing search to find the Tigerdirect link for 8.3%
Or Try This [http://www.bing.com/search?q=laptop&go=&form=QBRE&qs=n&sc=8-6]

As of the moment shipping is free and BCB appears to still work

search for 5870

XFX model = 409.99 = 376.04 after bing

HIS model = 409.99 = 376.04 after bing

XFX XXX model = 429.99 = 393.39 after bing

search for 5850

Visiontek = 309.99 = 284.26 after bing

XFX XXX = 324.99 = 298.02 after bing

Good luck!

They ship from Illinois if anyone is curious

Florida, North Carolina, and Illinois are Taxed

Wishes of good karma are always appreciated :)

Several States will actually have to pay tax - States in which there is a retail Tiger Direct pay tax (such as NC, where I live). Nice find, OP

Thanks op, grabbed the 5870 XFX one as well. Putting my old card on eBay chopping block hoping to minimize damage. :)

Last I checked XFX has double lifetime warranty, and doesn't require you to pay them additional money to ship your card back during the RMA process.

any reason why you chose it over the visiontek? lifetime warranty?

Visiontek has a lifetime warranty as well. The 4 available 5850s are priced in order of slowest to fastest. Here are the prices ACB and core/memory speeds for the 5850s on TD:
$263.49 - Visiontek - 725MHz/4GHz
$271.99 - XFX base model - 725MHz/4GHz
$276.24 - XFX XXX- 755MHz/4.5GHz
$288.99 - XFX Black - 765MHz/4.5GHz
I'm not sure if the high core/memory clocks are worth the extra cost. I'll try to dig up a review to shed some light on that.

Edit: Here's a link to AT's review on the Sapphire 5850 Toxic. That card's clocks are the same as the XFX Black (765/4500). The average improvement over the stock 5850 (725/4000) is 5.5%. The price premium is 9.7%. Most 5850s seem to exceed the Black's clocks anyways, so I'd just buy the cheapest model (or at most the XFX base model) and overclock it myself.

Edit2: After AT overclocked the Toxic, the average improvement (in a smaller sample of benchmarks) was 15.4% over the stock clocks.

the xfx xxx edition uses cherry picked chips, which will overclock higher with less heat typically. still expensive for the real world difference though.

$271.99 - XFX base model - 750MHz/4GHz
$276.24 - XFX XXX- 755MHz/4GHz

Actually, the above is not quite right: the XFX XXX has clocks of 755/4.5, and the base model is 725/4.0. For $5 more than the base and $15 less than the nearly identical Black Edition, I thought it was worth it. And yes, I picked XFX for the better warranty and good support.

I agree that most 5850s can clock to XXX or Black speeds, but for an extra $5, I got a good guaranteed bump, and perhaps a little more overclock headroom (I want to believe these are cherry-picked).

For those who are interested, I did some serious research on the 5870 as well, and came to the following conclusions:
(1) the 5870 runs louder at load, by a significant amount
(2) the 5870 is significantly longer
(3) the 5870 uses significantly more power at load, both due to higher clocks and a higher stock voltage
(4) the 5870 is about 15% faster than a 5850, 10% faster than the 5850 XXX/Black, and only about 5% faster than a 5850 at 5870 clock speeds. With some tweaking, I can get the 5850 to the 850/1200 speeds of a 5870, whereas the 5870 has less headroom to improve.
(5) I decided long ago that $300 was my absolute limit on a video card, so even though the 5870 at $350 is a better "deal", I just didn't want to break that barrier for a few % increase in FPS.

ahhh this is killing me XD
I don't think I would be able to game much till the end of april or so...
Then again, doesn't look like price is gonna drop much, let alone getting another deal like this sometime soon. In retrospect, we all should have picked up a 5850/5870 when they just hit the market :(

At your own risk guys. I'm 5 emails deep into a cashback issue w/ TD as we speak. For the 5850 too. They have not approved my $46.50 and I am trying to tell MS that this is the *only* reason I ordered from them. Showed them confirmation screen print and I am still not resolved after a week.

My guess is that they will take care of it. I bought something from TD before I even made a Bing CB account. I emailed them later after I signed up and asked if I could get CB for it. It took at least a week but sure enough they put it through. Give it time if you made a valid purchase they'll hook it up.

My mistake was believing the info on TD's website. Newegg confirms your numbers. I went back and fixed the numbers in my previous post.

I'm on the opposite side, I returned a card purchased from TD and am contacting MS to removed my cashback... I know, I'm paranoid...

I was pretty set on getting a 4890 for ~$216 at newegg before I saw this.. and decided the $60 jump to the 5850 XXX edition was worth it... I bit.

The 5850 is definitely a better deal than the 4890. Still not amazing, but we've been waiting long enough, right?

yeah, I am kinda tired of waiting. Doesn't look like the new nvidia cards are going to make huge a splash, the only thing that really looks tempting in the near future is none other than 5850. (my mobo doesn't do CF, so no 5770s for me). The chances of a significant price drop happening within next two months is...

I guess I will sleep on this deal for a day or two then decide.

Yes, I agree. After seeing preliminary nVidia data, I became convinced that the Fermi cards just aren't going to be able to put downward pressure on Ati prices. The 470 will be slightly faster than a 5850 (by 5-10%), but cannot possibly be priced at or below $300. So what card will sit at the $300 price range or slightly below? The 5850! And I'm playing way too much BC2 right now to not enjoy the card for ~$275.

By the way, I used to stay away from TigerDirect because I thought they just scammed uninformed airline travelers through their flashy ads, but honestly, they've really won me over. Their prices are competitive with Newegg, and with CB, it's a no-brainer. They also ship very quickly - the 5850 that I ordered yesterday is arriving tomorrow!

I grabbed up a VisonTek 5850 last week when I saw TD was 15% cashback. I had no problems with Td for cashback in the past and this time was no different.
